Anyone going to watch it this year? Got a party organised?↲
I'm currently watching the junior version, it's atrocious. I'm missing my usual Canberra crew party this year so trying to see what's doing in Melbourne. Go Malta!

Never heard of it... and I don't think it's shown here in America, so probably not.

I'm sure it'd be on one of your 3000 channels Smiley
But to be fair, it's mainly popular in Europe and Australia. Even though we can't compete or vote >(

Broadcast TV only in my house (although I do have cable when I'm in my apartment at school), my friend.

It gets no coverage here. It's probably on some specialty channel.

Eurovision is a pan-European contest between obscure songs no one's heard of performed by obscure bands no one's heard of from obscure countries no one's heard of.

I won't actually. I usually watch every year but I'll be away camping this weekend so... one of my friends is going to Oslo to see it live though.

Aussie gays love Eurovision Smiley

Eurovision is great. It's changed alot even in the time I've watched it. It's doubled in size, nearly everyone sings in English (except France), Ireland's got sh-t, Terry Wogan has left and they've ditched and then re-introduced the jury vote.

As more and more Eastern European nations have entered it has become a 'vote for your neighbours' contest. So they have re-introduced a 'jury' vote so it's half jury/half public vote. For example Greece always gives 12 points to Cyprus and Cyprus gives 12 points to Greece. Latvia gives top points to Lithuania, Estonia and Russia. Slovenia gives top points to Croatia and Bosnia. So for most of the '00s the winner (and the following years host) bounced from a Nordic nation to a Baltic nation to a Balkan nation and back again. It all got boring.

The Eurovision Song Contest is a product of the European Broadcasting Union made up of tv/radio stations from across Europe and some of the north African states. There's nothing to stop them entering but because they don't recognise Israel, also a member of the EBU and regular participant in Eurovision, even so much as to cutting to ad breaks when Israel perform then they don't really give it much thought.

They don't really have other European wide contests with knock-about outdoor gameshow, It's a Knockout / Jeux Sans Frontieres having kicked the bucket some time ago.

I like the eurovision Song Contest Smiley Some songs are very terrible, but when I hear them after years again I find them not so bad.

When you want to see it:

http://www.eurovision.tv/esctv

But you must install first Octoshape.

This is the song from Germany, Portugal and the favourite Azerbaijan

Some of my faves from years past. 2003/4 were especially good years:

Austria, 2004: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01jrcBnw5QE
"Du Bist"

Romania, 2007: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkddqG4cnQQ

Monaco, 1967: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPwd6IKgGQQ
"Boum Badaboum"

Ukraine, 2004: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48XfMRxp6IM
"Wild Dance". This won by a landslide.

Ukraine, 2008: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8FbpoSLk2E&feature=related
"Shady Lady"

Estonia, 2003: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNFqDC3q1Ww
"Eighties Coming Back". Luvluvluv.

Turkey, 2003: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3i4S4E7h3I
"I Wanna". I think this is the one ILV was talking about.

Italy, 1958: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DTo5aVLq5E
"Nel Blu Dipinta Di Blu". Obviously famous post-eurovision as "Volare".

United Kingdom, 1996: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha75f7i0JMI
"Ooh aah...just a little bit". One of a number of times Australians have competed, for the UK, Malta, Germany, Greece, Norway, or most famously, Ireland (Jonny Logan is from Melbourne).

But my favourite, with the perfect mix of  ridiculous clothes, bad but understandable english, key changes, stupid dance moves and a catchy melody. I also think if it was their song this year they'd have a shot at winning
Malta, 2004: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOeCUkE0cUI
"On Again, Off Again"

"Why oh why, can I live without you? How oh how do I reach inside you? My love is justified, I simply had enough, I want you by my side. Am I your fantasy, history or destiny? Take me for a ride, please tell me now". Best lyric ever.

Plus I usually go for Malta.

Seriously, watch the Malta video. Trust me. Whole way through. Also try out the Monaco one.

Germany 1979 1979 was the Song Contest in Jerusalem and Germany send a song with the name Genghis Khan Grin

Austria 1966 The perfect song when a love is broken

Sweden 1974 Every winner want to be the new ABBA

Finland 2006 It was very funny when Lordi wins and shock for many Grin

Ukraine 2007 I find this is the funniest song ever at the ESC

BTW, Yesterday was the first Semifinal and Portugal is in the Final at Saturday Smiley

Well, Germany wasn't my favourite (maybe number 6 or so), but the real story here is the Eastern Europe lost two times in a row!

EUROVISION IS BECOMING A NON-FARCE! This is disgraceful!

(At least Britain was still abysmal)

I thought Germany was pretty terrible actually. Lena can't sing, and she definitely can't speak English.

There were far better performances than hers. She didn't deserve to be anywhere near the top.
