This will probably be a election that will leave all the three major parties very disappionted.

It is very slow tonight - normally almost all the northern Labour seats have declared by now.

Why is this taking so long?  The Canadians, who use first-past-the-post, usually have their results in within a few hours.

Yeah, from what i saw from the 1979, 1983 and 1987 election coverage, the results were like halfway trough or more by this time.

But probably not suprrised.  The predictions from PBS and BBC were like 300ish Conservative, 250ish Labour, and fewer than 100 seats for the Liberal Democrat Party.  And that's how it seems to be turning.  The Conservative Party seems on track for just about 300, and the other parties seem to be on track, respectively, for somewhere between 250 and 270 and somewhere between 60 to 80.  That said, it is an intriguing election for all junkies because of the particular likely outcome.

I'm struck by the way--and I'm watching BBC on a computer, streaming, via guardian.co.uk, so I'm not exactly sure whether it's temporally in sync with the reporting in the UK, but it is at least the same coverage, however delayed--I'm struck by the similarity of UK reporting of UK elections to the US reporting of US elections.  Mostly gas-bag filler with "strategists" and ideologues, with the occassional cutaway to a vaguely-worded speech from a winner in a safe district that everyone knew he (or she) would win.  I suppose some things are the same everywhere.

Well, except maybe the bit with will.i.am.  Wink

There's local elections this time round as well though.

Defeated candidate Lembit Opik tweets: "It's a very sad day for democracy if being characterful means you can't be in parliament."

This is my first time watching a British election.  The punditry is interesting.  I keep waiting for a result, but they just aren't coming.  Why is it that our congressional seats seem to come in faster?  It's a smaller country.  They need to have some jingle everytime someone wins a seat and have some people doing some drama.  Also, people aren't doing power speeches like ours do and they don't have entrances with music.  Also, what's with the "state fair winner of best looking swine" lineup?  Why does the winner have to hang around with all of the losers?

Lib Dems running at -2, hopefully they can even break 80.

Some polls show them losing 3 seats.

So you want to take away everything that makes their elections good?

Montgomeryshire: Öpik's seat.

Montgomeryshire: Öpik's seat.

That and one more we've known for ages - but there was also a gain. Which is the third loss?
