Let's say that HHH is able to grab the nomination of the Democrats in 1976, and chooses Representative Barbara Jordan as his running mate.

On the Republican side, the ticket, Ford/Dole, remains the same.

How would this election turn out? Smiley

At that point it would be safe to assume that HHH was not running a serious campaign and Ford would win by 1972 margins all over again.

Jordan was on Carter's short list. Just sayin...

Humphrey was gravely ill by 1976. Unless of course you mean that in your scenario he was cancer-free.

But I agree with the rest that there is no way he chooses a black female (and closeted lesbian) as his running mate.

This is basically for laughs, but I thought it would be interesting, none the less. Wink

Sorry, typo. I meant that scenario for the Humphrey/Jordan ticket.

A Northern liberal would not win the entire South against Ford.

My gosh you're right. I was only going off of Carter's totals for some reason. Yea despite Watergate I think 1976 would've been another dull year for the democrats. They had some horrendous candidates in the 70's and 80's between Humphrey, McGovern, Carter, Mondale, and Dukakis.

I still think Ford would do better in the South (a LOT of people there only voted for Carter since he was a Southerner) and Humphrey would do better in the Midwest (since he was from Minnesota).
