I am completely unaware of the validity of the Buffalo Chronicle, but it's a local news site that also reported the rumors of Romney being asked to lead HHS by Biden, and Buffalo's Rep. Brian Higgins as primarying Rep. Nancy Pelosi for the Democratic House speakership, so who knows. I found it laughable nonetheless. (They also reported that Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown had expressed interest in jumping in the Democratic Primary - even long after Buttigieg clogged the whole "rust belt Mayor" lane)

They seem to be US politics' equivalent of those amateur NHL/NBA/NFL/MLB sites who break stories that they're "just so lucky" that nobody else has - almost none of which come true.

However, WNY has some personal and business ties to Roger Stone, so who knows.

https://buffalochronicle.com/2020/11/19/roger-stone-trump-needs-five-democrat-votes-to-be-elected-speaker-of-the-house/

"If Trump is able to secure the 218 votes, it would be the first time in American history that a former President serves as the Speaker of the House — an extraordinary political feat unto itself."

"Stone believes that Rep. Brian Higgins (D – Buffalo), Rep. Joe Morelle (D – Rochester), Rep. Tim Ryan (D – Akron), and a few others representing legacy industrial cities, could be convinced to back Trump with the commitment that his agenda will make the Midwest’s industrial revival priority number one during his Speakership."

"Alternatively, Stone postulates, that Trump could secure the five votes from a handful of Hispanic Democrats who represent communities along the southern border — but only if Trump promises to deliver comprehensive immigration reform, which is something that Pelosi has been utterly unable to deliver."

Trump would probably immediately begin impeachment proceedings against Biden and Harris so he could become President again.

The Buffalo Chronicle has frequently published false & unsubstantiated conspiracy theories, often aimed at politicians in New York State, the U.S., & Canada.

Quite literally, it is fake news.

This was my thought but I like a good laugh every now and then.

You have to work really hard to be speaker corralling 200+ Congressman and do a whole lot of husting for fundraising. Trump is way too lazy to have any interest in that.

Can you even be House Speaker if you're not a member of the House?

Given how unpopular congressional leadership is, maybe this is just what we need to finally make Donald Trump toxic.

This would be pretty hilarious if it came to pass, but I imagine there would be a lot of attempts on Biden and Harris's lives if Trump had that particular position.

Actually, yes.

But Stone is insane if he thinks those Democratic reps will vote for it. None of their cities even voted for Trump.

That's the whole point of this plan.

Go ahead, keep Trump on the news. That will help with suburbanites in 2022.

While this idea is crazy it isn’t totally crazy that Rs could convince 2-3 Ds to flip to someone less toxic (say, Fitzpatrick) based on some weird promises. I don’t think the coalition would ever last and odds are no R who could attract D votes for speaker could hold the R caucus together in the first place, but with how close the majority will be and how toxic Pelosi is it isn’t totally insane that there could be more than just token opposition when it comes down to a vote.

All that being said, Pelosi is still a 95% favorite to be the next speaker. It’s just she isn’t a 99.9%+ favorite like in prior cycles.

There was talk about Pelosi helping Boehner keep his job a while back, but it never came to be, because as you point out, any Speaker who needs the support of members of the other party would face immediate revolt from their own caucus, even if they somehow managed to get the votes.

I'd love to see this come to pass.

Of course I'd prefer to see industrial jobs come back to America.  The ones Globalists like Biden, Obama, and the Bushes ran off.
