What if Ike had accepted the draft of the Democrats instead of the Republicans? Remember, both parties tried to woo him in '52. Ike picks Estes Kefauver as his running mate.

Also, Senator Robert Taft wins the Republican nomination and picks Douglas MacArthur as his running mate.

Ike/Kefauver-302 EV
Taft/McArthur-229 EV

Ike narrowly wins since he manages to distance himself from Truman's unpopular decisions, since he pledges to quickly end the Korean War, due to his war hero status, and due to people's fears that Taft will overturn the New Deal (which helped Truman win in 1948 and allowed the Dems to recapture Congress that year).

Eisenhower would win by a fairly big margin.

The Democrats were extremely unpopular in 1952 and any Democrat would be associated with Harry S. Truman, war hero or not. Just like in 2008.

Douglas MacArthur's presence on the opposing ticket would give it the military credibility to win easily, plus he was a highly visible foe of the unpopular Truman.

MacArthur was completely discredited during the 1951 hearings.  Eisenhower would destroy him.
