I hate to say this, but I'm beginning to lose hope. Polls just don't seem to be going Bush's way. We still have a week, but I fear Kerry will edge out Bush in FL and OH. Bush will carry WI, IA and NM (maybe MN, doubt it). The final total, my guess, Kerry 289 and Bush 249.

So good-bye capitalism. It was nice to know you these last 228 years. Good-bye to our economic freedom and to the open market. Good-bye to states rights and federalism and hello strong central government (exactly what the founding fathers were afraid of). Hello marxist-leninist and good morning socialism. Hello to an extreem left wing surpreme court and hello to the United Nations deciding our fate. Hello higher taxes and to the death struggle of the small business sector. Hello to a minimum wage increase that far exceeds COLA (cost of living adjustment) and hello hyperinflation. Did we learn nothing from the Jimmy Carter administration? Thank God we can blame all the problems in the world on Bush, right liberals? Good-bye to any hope of a stable government in Iraq because we'll pull our troops out within four years of Kerry's first term. Remember, we were in Germany for ten years after the war ended and rebuilt it after we had destroyed it (Marshall plan) fighting insurgents (remnants of the Nazi party and members of the SS) along the way. Hello to the continual developement of Islamic-fasciet governments in the middle east. Hang on Isreal and watch out for that nuke Iran will drop on you because you don't deserve to exist in their eyes, and besides it was probably your fault to begin with. Hello complete and open borders, both parties fault here.

I remember the far left calling Bush a Nazi. I remember seeing the swastika painted over his face and MoveOn commercials of Bush molding into Hitler. Just remember what Nazi means. It is an abbreviation for Nationaler Sozialismus, or the english translation, national socialism which, by the way, you liberals and socialist want. So where do we go from here?

If we get Kerry, we get 4 years of incompetancy worse than Jimmy Carter and 4 years of paranoia worse than Richard Nixon.

Plus, we get the Portuguese Leona Helmsley as our First Lady.

Don't be so depressed.  It's this type of panic I see among Republicans constantly that makes me think there's a pretty good chance it won't happen.

And even if it does, let's enjoy our times of making fun of the future doofuses in the White House.  Smiley

Don't fear this.  It may happen but strength will be found in any such catastrophe.  The country paid for the Carter wreck.  It built back up under Ronald Reagan.  Bush 41 hit a bad economic streak and could not overcome it and we were saddled with Clinton for 8 years.  Strength has built back up during Bush 43.  Be strong.  Be resolute.

Bear...I just remember vividly the Carter administration. I remember the gas lines, run away inflation and the troubles in Iran where Carter acted like a duck hit over the head with a rock when it came to solving that crisis. I just never thought we would have another president with the same mindset as Carter. Kerry just reminds me so much of Carter.

4 years of lying and bad policies by NeoBush can be topped?
4 years of fear building and "paranoia" can be made even worser?

Where is the argument here?

You know, the world is more complex, faaar more complex than GWB can even imagine... so you want to choose someone who doesn't even realise the reality... ok, it's your right. You will by now know that it's not him making the decisions, he is just a puppet.

Shira...Clinton was a moderate compared to Kerry and rode the dotcom boom all the way during the 90's and left office just as it crashed. I'd vote a third term for Clinton before I would give a first to Kerry. However, I think you may have the last laugh Nov 2. Maybe...

I hope you are right. I am far from being confident, but I am more confident today than a week ago.

Keep in mind: there is not a real difference between Kerry and Clinton. They are both pragmatic. Both, for example, very badly whould like to extend Medicare to the whole population. But because they are realistic they are willing to wait until the proper moment.

I was once upon a time pessimistic too, but not so much now. Bush is doing a bit better than some of these polls are saying, so don't worry. Kerry's direction is not the right one for this country, and at least half the country believes that, so we'll be okay. Smiley

Your comparing of Carter to Kerry, I think, is right on. I've compared the two repeatedly. Weak military, weak intelligence, lots of social programs, too much internationalism, willingness to give too much away, and the list goes on. But at least the make-up of Congress is much different, so if Kerry would get in they'll fight him for sure.

Just a week more to go - I think we're all getting a bit tired of it.

Because we live in a democracy.  It was founded on Democratic ideals.  Majority rules.  To threaten violence against your fellow Americans because of their beliefs is very unamerican.

No I'm going to tell that to the person that threatened me right now.  I have no kind words for violent protestors though I feel that cops can be overly enthusiatic in breaking up peaceful crowds.  Phillip said  that he would commit violence against fellow citizens or the government if the government tried to organize national medical care system.  Does that not sound irrational to you?

The Nazi party was only close to Socialism in name. The Nazi's were a facist state with extreme nationalism and corporate rule.  Using your logic you could say that the Congo is a Democratic Republic.  Actions speak louder than words.

Just to be totally pedantic...we are not a democracy.  We are a constitutional representative republic.  Majority does not rule here.

But the only party that seems to remember this is the Libertarian Party.

Back to the topic, at hand, this election really is a coin flip.  I'm surprised the IEM and Tradesports futures aren't at 51-49 or something that close.  I do not share the relatively strong (Bush-side) optimism of those markets or the conservative commentators seem to have right now.  I think this election could be within the margin of cheating/litigation/etc.

So everybody get out there and vote early and often...
