You pick the VPs. Everything else stays the same. Discuss, with maps.

While Bush only had a year's experience as governor by then, I doubt Gore would win Kansas or North Dakota or Indiana.

How about if Bush beat Chiles in 1994, and W only won in 1998?

I was thinking a more conservative Midwest Democrat as VP.

I probably went overboard, but come on...Jeb had 6 months as Governor in 2000.  He had no prior experience.

I could see that happening if Gore had selected then Governor Ben Nelson of Nebraska as VP (give Gore Nebraska though).

In that case, Jeb wins in 2000.

Give one Maine EV to Jeb and MI to Gore and I would agree. What do you think the map will look like if Jeb lost in 1994 and only won in 1998?

Yeah, I was really iffy about MI, the only one I wasn't sure about.

If he had just won in 98 I couldn't see him getting out of the primaries, and who know what the dynamics of that campaign would have been...too many variables...

I guess you're right. I think mcCain would have probably defeated Jeb if he ran in 2000 with only 2 years of gubernatorial experience. Of course, many conservatives who vote in the primaries don't care about experience, but I still think enough support would ahve flipped to McCain to push him over the top in the primaries. I also think that in this case McCain would then proceed to defeat Gore in the general election in a Clintonesque landslide. Still, if Jeb somehow won the GOP nomination in 2000 with only 2 years of experience, I think Gore would ahve defeated him in a Clintonesque landslide.
