That will probably happen, as long as it is not Sarah Plain.

If the economy is recovering, Obama wins. It's as simple as that. And I see the economy suffeciently recovering by that point. Besides, many members in the Republican base don't like Romney because he's a Mormon and because he flip-flopped on abortion.

2008, Mitt Romney...Err

No, I think either Scott Brown 2016 or John Thune 2016.

What do you think Obama's approvals will be in 2016? I'm just curious.

The economy won't be fine, but it will be recovering. BTW, the economy didn't recover due to Clinton--it recovered due to the business cycle. Why will it not recover under Obama?

Like the 1990-1991 recession or maybe the 2001 recession.  Most recessions dont last two years.

I'm going to make the bold prediction and I feel strongly about this.  If Jeb decides to run in the primary, he will be the next President in either 2012 or 2016.

Despite his last name, most voters will know he is a different person than Dubya.  And if you are voting against him just because his last name is Bush, then that's kinda sad.

If you don't want to vote for him because of his record in Florida or because he is Catholic and has a Mexican wife, then that's your decision as well.

If he wants to run and can stomach the media "anti-Bush" attacks, then he can beat Obama or whoever the Dem nominee is.

I'm thinking the next time they don't nominate a super conservative. Not sure who it will be, but my guess is 2016, unless their choice is someone like Sarah Palin.

Of any Repub at the moment, I would give it to Romney in 2012.

Unlike prior recessions, the unemployement rate always declined when the economy came roaring back. This time it's different due to where the growth is occuring. If the consumer which makes up 70% of GDP, doesn't come back due to the fact that their taxes are either higher, or they don't have a job, how does anyone expect the economy to come back and get unemployement below 6 % in the next 3 to 5 years.

Not with this President's agenda. What the first thing he does after he promises the whole country that he will prioritize jobs, he goes back to putting healthcare first. Not to mention, an issue that even if it passes, doesn't materialize in another 4 years. The proper policies and approaches on job creation can start working ASAP.

I agree with those members that state that this is no ordinary recession and that the economy won't come back like the prior two recessions. I truly hope I am wrong for the sake of the American family, but there is no history written about this. That's for sure.

I'd say McDonnell has the best chance in 2016. If 2012 is the Republicans' year, than I would suppose Romney.

2032: Bristol Palin (R-Alaska); 42 at time of presidential election (b. Oct. 18, 1990, Wasilla, Alaska); the state's governor (elected in 2030); also a former, one-term senator (2023-2029). Elected Nov. 2, 2032 as the U.S.'s first female president!

The only Republican who has an appreciable chance in 2012 is Mitt Romney, and that requires abject failure by President Obama that makes Americans receptive to someone that they don;t know well. He is the only Republican who has a chance to win outside of the South and High Plains/Rocky Mountains. Much must go right for him and wrong for Obama.

As for the economy -- it won't be in as bad shape as it is in now.

Otherwise, Obama is simply unstoppable in 2012, and any Republican nominee is a sacrificial lamb on the scale of at least Bob Dole in 1996.

Sarah Palin loses to the "steady hand" approach. Huckabee has the new "Willie Horton" to be used against him. Other candidates are either too regional, too fringe, or connected to Dubya.
