Regardless of what Atlasian law says, the Northeast has an Army and Air National Guard - and the Governor has the authority to call them up.

https://uselectionatlas.org/AFEWIKI/index.php/Northeastern_National_Guard_Regulations

I don't question the right of the Governor to call those forces forward. It just would not be Constitutional at this time.

So sue him if he decides to do so.  If the police are on strike, we're not going to leave the Northeast without some police presence.  Calling on the guard to fill that role isn't asking them to act as armed forces in the traditional sense any more than it is were the Guard called out to help in a flood zone.

EDIT: Totally missed Article VI, Clause 6.

Cinyc has a point that with the police on strike, there needs to be some sort of law enforcement present.  Is it possible to ask the Senate for permission to used the armed forces?

I assume only regional police officers are part of this union and out on strike? If that's the case most local/municipal/county police officers (i.e. the vast majority of cops) are still on the job as they don't have labor contracts with the regional government. This would be the RL equivalent of a state's highway patrol going on strike.

Their absence on the roads will be felt for sure, but not immediate anarchy and lawlessness.

Now regarding all those state correctional officers going on strike.....Shocked

Maybe a volunteer force should be set up for the time being?

Ah, that's good news.  I was expecting total anarchy.

FYI - the DoI wants to mediate the labor dispute, if you wish.

With the resignation of Kal, I will be calling for the special election to be held in one week, on the 9th.  Unless it would be preferred to simply wait for the general election.

FYI - I don't think we can vote on the Constitutional Amendments until next month - May 21.

Please ask the CJO for his opinion before putting them on the ballot.

Uh, Gov, don't you think when you create an election thread in the voting booth there needs to be start/end dates and times?

The Practical Labor Policy Redux is presented to your desk for a signature or veto.

Also, I'd like to note, we never did come to a conclusion on those workers. I'd be interested in working with you, Cinyc, and PS for a solution to this.

I would be more than happy. We can do this either over PM or in a separate thread.
