I'll answer that seriously.  An Arabic royal family, descended directly from Muhammad, who once ruled over Jordan, Iraq, and Arabia itself.  The Hashemites now only rule Jordan, after the House of Saud took control of Arabia and after the Iraqis abolished the monarchy.

They had their capital at Mecca. How wrong!

Well, to be fair, Hussein started out as the Sharif of Mecca, it was his powerbase.

That said, I'll defer to you on the problems with the imagery.  Is it something about wanting to keep the secular ruler out of the holy city?  He did have pretensions to the title caliph at one point.
