Local Elections in 2009 were very competitive, US House Election 2006, US Senate Republican Primary 2004.

When was the last time there was a close statewide election in California? Maybe the first time Boxer got elected over Hershenson (sp). When was that?  Or Feinstein over Huffington? I think since then a couple of down ballot state offices have been close. My local elections are never competitive really, although Gilchrist created a bit of noise running third party in my CD, that cut Campbell's margin somewhat. My idiot assemblywoman is safe, even though I regularly vote against the airhead b*tch, who thinks gays and pot among other things are sinking our culture in a sea of immorality, and doesn't have any specifics as to how to cut any spending in California, but is passionate about keeping Gitmo prisoners out of Camp Pendtleton, as if the state could control what the Feds do in any event.

Or yes!  Prop 8 was close, close to losing, but no cigar.

I just voted my roommate's absentee ballot today, and depending on how angry folks are at school levies (hopefully somewhat) I may win this one.  Smiley

Failing that, the 2009 General had a thin mayoral race, and Referendum 71, which was 'close' and confusing enough to be "competitive."  In fact, I had the privilege of casting something like two dozen ballots for the 2009 General.  Mine first, of course.  "Vote early, vote often."

As for non-ballot issue races that anybody out-of-state knows about?  Gregoire v. Rossi II in 2008 is the only thing that could remotely qualify.  Ironically enough, it was one of the least exciting races to vote in I can remember.

Presidential, 2008 in Indiana was competetive.  I just didn't believe it would be, polls be damned.

This is why absentee voting is bad.

I guess you could consider the SC-01 election in 2008 competitive, when Henry Brown defeated Linda Ketner 51-48.

Why wouldn't someone consider that competitive?

The December 2008 House election in which Cao beat Jefferson.

After February 6th 2010 I'll have voted in another competitive election- many of the downballot races here are pretty competitive.

I didn't say that Wink, and I haven't voted yet anyway.  My roommate had me vote Yes on both (his mom's a teacher), he just had me connect the arrows and put it in the secrecy stuff.

Do you mean locally?

Locally, the most recent competitive elections I got to vote in were the California senatorial elections of 1992 and 1994.  I, of course, voted for Herschensohn and Huffington.
