Will the U.S. ever elect a Native American President?

If so, when do you think that could happen?

Yes, after 2100. I don't see many viable Native Americans Presidential candidates right now. We did have a Native American VP, though--Charles Curtis (R-KS), between 1929 and 1933. Maybe if the Great Depression didn't occur and/or if something happened to Hoover, he could/would have become President.

It's a non-factor. It can happen at anytime, but they aren't a huge bit of the population. My bet: It will be someone of native american descent.

His maternal ancestry was three-quarters' Native American, so yes, we did have essentially a Native American VP.

And Coolidge did have some Amerindian ancestry.

It is interesting that it was back to back and two Republican administrations.

To my understanding though, some historians believe that Coolidge's claim of Indian ancestry has not been verified.

Like Nik says, he will probably be of Amerindian descent.

Despite rumors to the contrary, there is no evidence that any president before Obama had non-European ancestors.

Even still, it is highly unlikely they all are 100% European.

Most legitimate genealogists agree with me, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is someone whom they are overlooking.

Doesn't Hillary Clinton have some Native American ancestry? That's what I read. She almost became President back in '08 and might win in '16.

No, it was a family legend, just like Bill's.

Are you serious? Well, that's a shame.

Yes.

There is a lot of stuff out there about the ancestry of various presidents that isn't true.  There are widely-discredited rumors that FDR was descended from Africans because one of his ancestors from the 1600s was born in (I think) Tangiers.  Coolidge's supposed Amerindian ancestry comes from an ancestor named Amanda(?) Bearse, who was actuality completely of colonial stock.  The Bushes are related to Pocahontas through marriage, not descent, as is sometimes claimed.  And on and on and on.

Actually, most presidents are related somehow to one another, as their families tend to have lived in America for hundreds of years and originated in the Northeast.  Off the top of my head, the only presidents who aren't related to another president are Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Reagan.
