I think not. From what I've read it seems very likely that he'll concentrate on the Governor's Mansion in 2014, and use the Senate as a stepping-stone.

Well, if Joseph Cao thinks he has a legitimate shot at re-election, why wouldn't Brown?

Probably not.  If he does, he'll lose.

That is like asking if Kay Hagan will get elected. I say if he does what he said he will and vote like Snowe then He will hold his seat in 2012.

If he is a tea batter as some suggest (probably not), no. If he is like. Snowe (which I personally think she will be) then he has a good shot. Besides, NE Republicans may have a resurgance this year if trends continue.

As of today, I would say no, but a lot can change in 33 months.

Agreed

Remember his voting record in the State Senate indicates he is more Liberal then Dede Scozzafava. He is Pro-Choice and now thanks to this campaign, Pro Gay Rights(If you see him stick to this then I think he will run and have a shot). I don't think he runs agains unless he is competative. The guy is hella good at connecting with people and If I were him I would take every opportunity to consult with voters at town halls and go even to places that went to Coakley to do them, establish an excellent consitutent services operation, and vote with Obama 35% to 40% of the time. Even if I wasn't running again it would do wonders to keep the favorables above 50% and possibly run for another office in 2014.

I can see him winning reelection. MA independents still outnumber both Dems and Repubs combined and as long as he can maintain his support amongst the Indies and the Reps he can continually humble candidate after candidate from the MA Democratic machine.

No.
Any year other than a Presidential election year he'd stand a good chance, but Obama's reelection will mean high turn-out for minorities. Even if he turns out to be the most centrist Republican in Congress, he'll face down-ticket effects in favor of Dems - just ask Chris Shays.

He will probably just retire rather then face reelection to the Senate, and start preparing a bid for Governor.

He will probably run for reelection. I could see him winning if he adapts a persona a la Olympia Snowe or Susan Collins, and builds enough political support in the state to offset a near certain Obama win in the state. He hasn't even been seated yet, let's see how he turns out.

It depends. He has a mandate, and if he acts like he campaigned, I think there is a possibility that he will be re-elected. However, it would be a tough battle.

From what I see right now, No. I think that he will lose in 2012 since the Democrats will nominate a much better candidate and campaigner (possibly Capuano) and in addition to that, Obama will very likely carry Massachusetts in a huge landslide in 2012. These two factors alone should cost Brown his re-election bid.

I agree with what the others said - if Brown puts forth an image like Snowe or Collins, then he has a good chance of winning, and possibly keeping the seat for as long as he wants. If he instantly bows to the far-right GOP, which I doubt he will, then he'll be gone come 2013.

It depends on how popular Obama will be and how seriously will Republican presidential nominee contest Massachusetts. Let's say Obama is tanking and is about to lose national election to Mitt Romney who is also spending money in Massachusetts. Romney wins Worcester, Plymouth and Barnstable counties and loses the state about 55-45 (come to think about it, this is exactly what happened in 1988, so there's a precedent). Brown slightly outperforms him in these traditionally somewhat Republican-leaning counties and tops it of by winning Norfolk, his home county and beats the Dem Senate nominee 51-49.

Chances of this happening? Slim, but better than the chances he had of beating Coakley in the first place.

His chances of being re-elected are about as good as Nick Lampson's were last year...
