I thought you frowned upon keeping "bloodshirt dictators in place". Alessandri was probably the most democratic president Chile had under the 1925 Constitution (in the sense that he never overrode the limits of executive power at the cost of the legislature or judiciary). He also introduced "progressive" measures like agrarian reform and across-the-board tax increases (because of pressure from the Alliance for Progress). Why then vote against him instead of anti-democratic dictators like Noriega or Velasco Alvarado?

What exactly about 1970 makes Alessandri worse than Noriega or Velasco (or the myriad other corrupt leaders on the list)?
