In a flawless run, Representative John Ashbrook upseats Nixon for the nomination but in a show of unity would keep Agnew on the Republican ticket. For the Democrats however, 1968 American Independent candidate George Wallace pushes himself to victory at the Miami Beach National Convention and after few candidates stepped up to be Wallace's VEEP, Vance Hartke was chosen as Wallace's VEEP. With this in tow, Liberals were turned off from both tickets and called for a liberal choice in the election, that would come when Representative Shirley Chisholm would announce she was running on a Peace ticket for President. This soon turned to a "National Unity" ticket when Chisholm chose liberal Republican Pete McCloskey as her runningmate.

How does this election play out? Discuss, with maps if you wish.

Republican Ticket:
Representative John Ashbrook, OH
Vice President Spiro Agnew, MD

Democrat Ticket:
Governor George Wallace, AL
Senator Vance Hartke, IN

"National Unity" Ticket:
Representative Shirley Chisholm, NY
Representative Pete McCloskey, CA

Vote splitting allows for a massive Ashbrook landslide. blacks and some liberals bolt the party. ashbrook is not listed on the ballot in AR, LA, MS, AL, or GA. unfortunately i had to use a 68 map.

I'd love to see someone write about the Presidency of Shirley Chisholm. Smiley
