Prior to 1988, Bush Sr.'s electoral experience was winning a wealthy Republican congressional district in Texas twice, losing two Senate races in Texas, losing the 1980 Republican presidential primaries to Reagan, and being Ronald Reagan's understated running mate. He only won the Presidency in 1988 because he was Reagan's VP and Dukakis was a terrible challenger.

HW was more of a mainstream conservative, further right than his father Prescott but not as far right as Newt Gingrich's Contract Republicans (or indeed, his two sons).

HW was not a good political campaigner or politician in general. He was more of a bureaucrat, as evidenced by his career before 1980.

Nah, hes deeper than that. This guy truly scares me. His refusal to wear a flag pin. Him reading the book call The Post American World about Jihad defeating us. Him not going to Arlington to lay a wreath on the tomb of the unknown. I really fear him.

Are you f-ing serious?

The Post-American World is just one long Newsweek article.
