Religion: Asatru

What's that?  I've heard of numerous religions but never that one.

Ilikeverin got it right, sort of. Asatru is a generic term for a number of very, very closely religions based on Germanic heathenism. I tend to follow the Anglo-Saxon branch, mostly because I'm 96% British, but Scandinavian and Pan-Germanic versions are also popular.

We are polytheistic, and believe in Woden, Thunor, Frigga, and such. And while Asatruars are generally conservative (infinitly more so than the ultra-liberal wiccans, to say the least), I imagine we'd probably scare the hell out of the religious right.

I posted a bit when Kerry was running for president, then a few more times when Obama was. Something compelled me come back here and post for some reason. Don't really know why. Was wondering if anyone could give me advice as to the more appropriate avatar. Last time I was here, I put it as R-ON, because I've only ever voted for the Conservative Party of Canada (or the PCP of Ontario). Within Canada, I'd be somewhere in the more Liberal wing of the CPC, with a mild Libertarian bent. However, transplanted into the US, I'd actually likely become a Liberal Democrat without changing a single idea. Heh.

Either way, I sort of like the Blue avatar better, because I've only ever voted for Conservative parties, and tend to identify with Conservatives more, in general.
