The 1968 DNC was known for the brutal violence displayed towards the protesters.

The 1972 DNC was more known for the embarrassing disarray within the party on stage: poor George McGovern didn't get to give his acceptance speech until 3 in the morning because delegates and other politicians kept causing intentional delays.

But if there's protests going on outside, then both comparisons are accurate.
