I know we've had at least one thread on this, but I couldn't find it. How has your county voted for US President? Go as far back as you want.

I feel bad for BRTD. I think being in a county that votes for tools like Wilson and Mondale is what messed him up so bad.

I have a question…

I have a relative in Larimer County, Colorado where Fort Collins is the county seat. According to records here, Larimer has voted for the candidate who has carried Colorado in all elections since 1960, the furthest back this site tracks.

Does anyone know, or suspect, whether Larimer County has voted for the candidate who carried Colo. ever since the state entered the union (and got the vote) in 1876?

Larimer failed to go with the Colorado statewide winner in 1908, 1932, and 1948.

I don't live in the States now, but I've lived in 3 counties in the US:

Nassau, NY (1991-1995) (listed above, no reason to repeat)

Hudson, NJ (1995-1997)
1904 Parker (D)
1908 Taft (R)
1912 Wilson (D)
1916?
1920 Harding (R)
1924 Davis (D)
1928 Smith (D)
1932 Roosevelt (D)
1936 Roosevelt (D)
1940 Roosevelt (D)
1944 Roosevelt (D)
1948 Truman (D)
1952 Stevenson (D)
1956 Eisenhower (R)
1960 Kennedy (D)
1964 Johnson (D)
1968 Humphrey (D)
1972 Nixon (R)
1976 Carter (D)
1980 Carter (D)
1984 Reagan (R)
1988 Dukakis (D)
1992 Clinton (D)
1996 Clinton (D)
2000 Gore (D)
2004 Kerry (D)
2008 Obama (D)

New York, NY (1997-2000)

It has voted D in every election since 1876, except for 3:

1896 McKinley (R)
1920 Harding (R)
1924 Coolidge (R)

Bergen County, NJ

2008: Obama (D) - 54.19%
2004: Kerry (D) - 51.88%
2000: Gore (D) - 55.27%
1996: Clinton (D) - 52.7%
1992: Bush (R) - 44.2%
1988: Bush (R) - 58.2%
1984: Reagan (R) - 63.2%
1980: Reagan (R) - 55.9%
1976: Ford (R) - 55.9%
1972: Nixon (R) - 65.3%
1968: Nixon (R) - 54.5%
1964: Johnson (D) - 59.7%
1960: Nixon (R) - 58.9%

Looking back, it's really remarkable how consistent voting patterns in NJ have been. The state itself has gone from being a lean Republican state to a fairly solidly Democratic state over the years, but the ordering of counties from most Democratic to most Republican has barely changed at all in the intervening time.

Bergen is the exception to the rule; it used to be one of the most Republican counties but now more or less follows the statewide percentages with only a slight Republican tilt relative to the state as a whole. The rapidly increasing Hispanic and Asian populations promise to keep it that way or move it further towards the Democrats in the medium-term. While Bergen was lily-white in the 70s and 80s, it will be over 15% Asian and another 15% Hispanic in 2010.
