Here's a possible scenario in Kansas that would benefit Democrats:

1) Senator Sam Brownback and Senator Pat Roberts die or resign before the 2010 midterm elections and their successors are Democrats (whether they are moderate, conservative, or DINOs) appointed by Governor Mark Parkinson.

or

2) Senator Pat Roberts dies or resigns and his successor is a Democrat appointed by Mark Parkinson and Kathleen Sebelius changes her mind and runs for the Senate in 2010 and wins.

No, you idiot, it doesn't.

As to the scenarios, I say they're unlikely.  Roberts seems to be in good health, likewise with Brownback.

Okay, let's say that Pat Roberts somehow gets assassinated and was replaced with a Democrat. Would Kansans feel uncomfortable with electing Kathleen Sebelius to the other Senate seat?

Maybe I should start off a thread killing off a Democratic Senator or two for some balance.

What would this forum ever do without Sam Spade? Smiley

The above scenario is practically impossible. Dems dream of having a Senator from Kansas because they haven't had won since 1939. Dreaming isn't going to make it happen though. And despite the GOP getting hammered in 2008 the so-called divisions within the Kansas GOP that helped elect Sebelius in the first place and were supposed to deliver the state to Dems have at least appeared to have quieted down since most of the agitators have lost re-election. McCain still got 58% in 2008 and Pat Roberts got 60%. Whoever wins the GOP Primary in 2010, preferably Moran, will likely win by the same margin depending on the opponent.

No, I wasn't. I was creating a theoretical scenario because I only dream of the day Kansas has two Democratic senators.

EDIT: Also, being a senator is not known for increasing your lifespan.

Who says so. Strom Thurmond, Jesse Helms, Robert Byrd certainly didn't lose much time by being there.

Why is "The Arizonan" so concerned about Kansas having 2 Democratic senators?  Last time I checked Arizona does too and there's a better chance of getting them out
