Rand Paul, that is. Ron Paul's son has his eyes on Kentucky. His father being a prodigious fund-raiser, and Kentucky being an old school conservative state, does he have any chance at all in the primary?

LMAO. Kentucky is the farthest from "old school conservative" along with Arkansas and West Viriginia. Those are still Democrat states no matter how they vote. They hate abortions and gay marriage and Obama, but they are not conservatives.

Many, many areas of Kentucky could be classified as "populist" (socially conservative economic lefties).

As to the question, did anyone catch how this clown started his campaign?

No thanks, he doesn't have to vote for California.

Anyway, Kentucky voters will love how he launched his campaign in NYC.

You know, I really liked Ron Paul when he ran for president, but I'm getting really tired of his negativity, especially against other conservatives.  There are republicans who support many of the ideas he stands for and this whole "son with the weirdo, but bestselling author name" running smacks of dynasty.

While this guy is probably just some useless objectivist, you have to figure that nobody better is going to run in Kentucky.

Those are real conservative states, unlike Utah, Idaho and Wyoming who would vote for anyone with a R next to their name.

Last time I checked the Republicans hold both US Senate seats in Kentucky, ever heard of Mitch McConnell, Giovanni?

Kentucky actually should not be catagorized with WV and Ark. The Reason being that unlike those two Kentucky has been much more conservative and the Republicans have had a strong presence in Eastern KY since the Civil War, just like Eastern TN. During the Clinton years the Western part of the State realigned to the Republicans making the state a Solidly Republican one, but to compare it to Arkansas where the GOP has always been week and WV where Republicans have been murdered since the 1950's is unfair and incorrect.

Free appearances on cable shows, and a fundraiser.  Very smart.

Not if he wants to win. It's painfully obvious that he doesn't care about Kentucky.

Spin it all you want.  Almost any politician would go to NY or LA if they could launch their campaign with a TV appearance.

Probably not, given the perception of being a carpet bagger and sort of off in libertarian moonbeam land. Then again even now Conservatives are extremely disillusioned with the Republican establishment and the sort of anti-government populism he's touting is fairly popular due to all the resentment over bail outs and creeping tax increases. If he played his cards right I'd give it a 25% chance of happening.

I think Rand (ugh) Paul raised about $450,000 yesterday in one of those "money bombs."  Can't say this guy won't be funded well enough.

No. This is Kentucky, not Wyoming.

He is only trailing by 2 against Mongiardo, so it's not totally far fetched, especially if he is able to fundraise phenomenally like his father.

I don't see him getting that close to winning, if he wins the primary. His type of conservatism just won't appeal to dixiecrats that have switched over to the other side. All that the Democrat would have to do is critize him for going against the Patriot Act, Department of Education etc and the race would be a done deal.
