Vermont is a bit of an odd state in that is fairly rural and I believe the second whitest state after Maine.  Most of the population are either mainline Protestants or Catholic, I believe Evangelicals are under 10% while nationally they are around 25% so that maybe part of it, although still McCain won about half the mainline Protestant and Catholic vote.  I don't totally buy the idea of it being close to Canada as making much impact as Western New York is the closest area in New York to Canada, yet the most Conservative part of the state.  I am guessing its more a case of the state being liberal/moderate and thus with the Democrats now dominating this group, while historically the Republicans did is probably the reason.

It would be so easy to switch the state if we had enough people move there.  I think libertarians were trying to make New Hampshire an all libertarian state, a shift in only 68292 votes would have allowed a republican to win in 2008 - not a lot compared to the other states that went 54%  for Obama.  Democrats were smart to settle in these states, they were low hanging fruit that could easily be taken over and secure easy electoral votes.  I know its not as simple as that, but still...

Yes, that is exactly the reason most people moved to Vermont in the last 20 years: To secure its 3 electoral votes for the Democratic Party.

Ridiculous.

Why would libertarians want to secure votes for the GOP?

Vermont hasn't seen a massive shift in demographics compared to some states so I don't buy it one bit.  One could argue newcomers from other states in Virginia, North Carolina, and Colorado helped shift those states as the former two have a large transplanted Northeasterners primarily in NOVA and the Research Triangle, while Colorado has received a large number of migrants from California.  Although I suspect they moved due to other factors such as job opportunities not politics.

Just because Vermont is not a communist state does not mean it does not have communist ideals.  Geez people really need to get a clue

Learn a differences between communism and socialism (esspecially democratic socialism) before you start posting again, or just get sober at once
