The level of the debate in this forum has dropped still further recently... the amount of partisan bullsh**t has been steadly increasing over the summer and has reached saturation point... and objective analysis has become a thing of the past...

Please get a grip...

I see your point Al.

It's good to be objective but I think my Democratic colours come across loud and clear.

I wish, but unfortunately I think it will just continue to grow up till the election.  Best bet is just to do you best not to respond to the radical posts, unless it is to point out obvious flaws in their statements.

Keep your chin up, Al.  Smiley

Well said, though sometimes you can never win. If you put down a good argument or a good reason for what you believe in it can get slapped down in a barrage of 'French' this and 'Troll' that, which is a pity. Then of course we have the case of people who are meant to be non-partisan, who quite clearly aren't and should change avatars.

Everyone is partisan, even if it is for a third party.  However, you can still have non-partisan discussions on topics, especially in the "brain-storming" categories.  I think that is where most of us thrive.

I apologize for my increasingly shrill tone of late. I'm just getting frustrated with this election.

I think we all are.  Just be glad that there are only 6 weeks left.  Smiley

Honestly, I'm starting to get to the point where I don't even really care who wins anymore; I just want the election to be over so we can maybe get back to a state of mind in which the "other side" isn't composed of evil, vile creatures who deserve unprovoked ridicule and/or death.

Then again, maybe I'm trying to remember a time that never existed, I don't know.

I disagree with that statement, I think.  Perhaps you were tyring to say everyone can be theoretically charted in ideological proximity to some party or other, but "partisanship" implies allegiance to a defined group--and even the most partisan individual has his/her cracks of 'loyalty.'  The measure of ideological consistancy of a person to a 'party' is hardly all that predictive a factor to their political behavior--ideological appeal is only one factor in building that relationship.

People are by nature politically Independant--idependance is something they give up only for so long as they believe it serves them.

"The mark of a moderate man is freedom from his own ideas."

This forum is a rare refuge for the politically minded--where it's not just the Zealots (even centrist zealots!) and loyal partisans who dictate the dialogues--but where the truly moderate interact.  Quite refreshing!
