Atlas members,

I had posted in the "Senate Races" thread that the filing deadline for announcing Senate candidacy was yesterday.  I had been assuming it was the same as the deadline for voter registration.

Looking at the amendment which appears to have passed a public poll (though no one has declared this as official), the filing deadline for candidacy is 7 days, not 10.  This means the deadline for candidacy announcement will be this Friday.  The deadline for voter registration, however, has passed.

A little housekeeping:

Ilikeverin, please take the voting thread for this amendment out of the unified voting thread, it passed the Senate.

Gustaf, please un-sticky the public poll thread for this amendment, and post the amendment in the constitution thread.  No one has officially declared this, but it appears to have passed.

It seems slightly illogical to me that voter registration has an earlier deadline than candidacy announcement.  It is too late to amend this for this election, but I would propose the Senate act to amend the voter registration deadline to 7 days as well, in time for the August elections.

Thank You,
Fritz

A few more notes on housekeeping:

There are a couple other bills in the unified voting thread that have passed, and been signed by the President.  Gustaf and Ilikeverin, you know what to do.   Smiley

It is somewhat open to interpretation as to whether the deadlines for filing and voter registration are 7/10 days prior to the start of the election or 7/10 days prior to the end of the election, however. Since we have multi-day elections, this should be clarified further.

ILV, if you do take stuff out of the unified voting thread, make sure Gustaf knows what they are so he can post the laws.  You guys need to work together on this.

It seems clear enough to me that "before the election" means before the election begins, not before the election ends.  However, if someone wanted to challenge that, I suppose they could take it to the Supreme Court.

That is the interpretation that has always been used.

Ok, if voter registration for the Presidential Election is now finalized, can we have a list of registered voters posted by party and state?

Perhaps you could publish the list you have, say what date it was last updated on, and then we could fill in the gaps from there. If it isn't an ancient list it wouldn't be hard for us to add the voters who have registered since then.

Yes.  10 days before June 18 is June 8.  They registered in time, barely.

If Mort From New Yawk is registered, then Old Europe should be as well. Both of them made posts in the thread declaring an intent to register, but never officially declared a party or home state.

If you change your party right now, are you still able to vote in the election?

As long as you were registered to vote before the deadline, I don't see why a change in party would matter.  A change in state might be an issue, however, I think you would have to vote in the state you were registered in before the deadline.

FWIW, OldEurope's home state before the new avatars came out was Massachusetts.

I say that Mort From New Yawk should be considered registered then as an Independent from New York, and Old Europe as an Independent from Massachusetts, unless they wish to address this and say differently. Old Europe does need to put up a Massachusetts avatar or state his home state in his signature, though.

Complete List sorted by State

This is taken from the lists posted by John F Kennedy and Blerpiez.  I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the information.  I did make a couple of minor assumptions.  Any inaccuracies should be reported so I can correct the list.
