Just in case John Kerry does lose to the incumbent 'President' come november, what will happen to John Edwards. Kerry will obviously return to the senate, but what will become of John Edwards?

Will he perhaps retire, return to legal practice, run again in six years or challenge for the governors mansion.

Your thoughts?

I think Edwards will run again for President in 08 if Kerry loses.  What  he would do between now & then I have no clue

Do you not think he would have a hard time winning the primaries if this happens?

I expect that in 2008, if Kerry loses we'll see a Hillary Clinton, or Al Gore ticket being the two top primary contenders.

I don't think Edwards will have a hard time winning the primaries in 08.  Hopefully we won't have to even think about the primaries in 08 though:)

Al Gore won't run in '08 (and if he does he won't win the nomination).  If Gore wanted to run, he needed to do it this year.
I don't think Hillary will run in '08 unless there is a significant shift in the mood of the electorate.  She'would win the nomination if she did, but she would lose the general election at a time some other Democrat could have won it and she is smart enough to know that.  Possibly in 2012 after a two-term Kerry presidency, or the first term of Bush's Republican successor, but not in 2008.
Edwards will have been on the shelf for too long.  He could use some seasonimg, but where can he get it bewteen now and '08 if he isn't the VP?  If the John/John ticket loses, Edwards will have to wait until at least 2016 before running again.  Of course, whoever heard of a losing VP candidate coming back twelve years later to win the Presidency? Smiley
No, if John/John loses, the likely Democratic nominee in 2008 will be one of the current Democratic governors, but which one, I don't know.

He'd remain in the public eye and run in 2008, and probably win.

I agree....look to the Governors. Edwards would run in 2008 and get a real good look over but in my view would not be a sure thing. And I must say.....I.....an unappoligetic Liberal (I prefer Pragmatic Progressive:) ) would never vote for Senator Clinton in the primaries and would have a real hard time voting for her in the general election. Not that I don't like her politics, they are very close to mine, but she would not make a good president, plain and simple. She's just a Republican pipedream of a candidate to run against.

But remember he's going to be out of the spotlight for awhile if he and Kerry lose. He no longer has his Senate seat after January 3rd of next year.

I think we will, he's only 52 or so and he's ultra-ambitious.

Edwards would run in 08 and probably win, doing something noble and fundraising for the DNC would probably be the main way he would pass time....

Meanwhile others events that would probably come to pass would be, Barrack Obama emerging as a real democrat presence in the Senate, Mark Warner perhaps defeating Allen in 06, Harold Ford could also enter the Senate....

As for the other contenders for the nomination they would have to include Feingold, H Clinton (sadly she is a possibility Sad ), Mary Landrieu, Mark Warner, Blanche Lincoln and Ed Rendell would all be potential candidates for the nomination, that said Edwards would probably win easily over all of them with Feingold and Clinton marginalised on the left and (sadly) Lincoln and Rendell marginalised on the right...

Exactly.  Kerry loses and he'll run in 2008.  It would probably be Clinton v. Edwards for the Dem nomination.  Although I agree with Hilary's positions more, I think Edwards would make a better president.

51 if I recall correctly. Only recently turned it too as when I checked during the primaries before Super Tuesday he was listed as being 50.

It says here he was born June 10, 1953 in Seneca SC.  So he is 51, and will be 54-55 for the 2008 campaign.

bump. He also cheated on his wife who had cancer with a campaign worker. That also makes him a dirtbag. But with great hair.
