What would the results/maps look like if the following elections took place in present day 2004?

Taft(R) vs. Wilson(D) vs. Roosevelt(P)
Hoover(R) vs. F.Roosevelt(D)
Thomas Dewey(R) vs. Harry S. Truman(D)
Lyndon Johnson(D) vs. Barry Goldwater(R)
Richard Nixon(R) vs. George McGovern(D)
Ronald Reagan(R) vs. Jimmy Carter(D)

1964 map+the Black vote in the South... so Goldwater wins AZ, MS and maybe AL.

Goldwater would win most of the diehard Republican states, ie. Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Mississippi, Alabama, and perhaps Louisiana, Georgia and Montana. Not forgetting Goldwater's homestate of Arizona of course. The rest, including Texas (it being LBJ's homestate and all), would go with LBJ.

And I'm only saying this because I'm too tired/lazy to create a map. Even though a map would've probably taken less effort than writing all this down. Oh well.

GA, MS, LA and AL are hardly diehard GOP states (useless info #77845, the Dems control the State House in all four states) ... the populist LBJ did extremely well in Appalachia (even in AL and GA) and also in Cajun country.
Add the black vote, and he wins LA and GA easily. Not sure about AL, but he'd win MS because racial polarisation is always worse there than the other states...
Utah is very socially conservative and I don't see it taking to a Libertarianish Conservative like Goldwater.

The thing is, Goldwater wouldn't look good to anyone... not to blacks for obvious reasons, but not to the Southern whites who dislike blacks, because they tend to be religious and a part of the Religious Right.

Just my $.02 Smiley
