Well I believe that I am nor ever will be a politician. Why? Because I can’t get elected.

My “grand’ political resume:

-   Ran for Republican Vice Presidential nominee. I won that one, but for the fledging Atlas National Party. Reaganfan even dropped out before I could be put on the ballot.

-   Ran for Midwestern Governor. I lost) to Ilikeverin (winning roughly 30% of the vote) in a humiliating landslide.

What a mess! To quote Charlie Brown, “Everything I touch get’s ruined.” It has occurred to me that I may never (probably will never) get elected to an office in the Atlas Elections.

I guess that is partially due to where I live. I could move to a Republican region or a region where the UAC Minnesota block vote can’t come out in force to defeat me. As we look back on my defeat for governor I was defeated by block UAC and Democrats from the great state of Minnesota. Minnesota is a beautiful state, but it really hurts me in the Midwest, oh well. Everyone in this forum from Minnesota or representing it (Ilikeverin, Fritz, Gustaf) are all very nice, good, and respectable people.

I won’t move though. The last thing I need to become is a Carpetbagger. As a Carpetbagger I will be bowing to politicians that I have always despised for being beaurocrats and bean counters. I want to say that if I never get to an elected position in my entirety at the Atlas Election Forum, I will not move from the Midwest.

Another thing I would like to say is that I do not approve of Reaganfan running for Governor of the Midwest. He is not originally from the Midwest. He is not even representing the state he comes from, Ohio, but Texas. Ilikeverin is actually from the Midwest, and the polls show he will be impressively reelected.  From Reaganfan’s own poll I show the statistics:

Governor Ilikeverin: 70%

Reaganfan: 29%

What happened to that 1%, I guess Boss tweed stole it. Smiley

In conclusion of my rant I wish to say that all in all I will not be disappointed if I never get to the Governor’s Mansion, the Senate, or the White House. I’m not power hungry or lusting for glory, I am fine being an historian.

I endorse PBrunsel for some position that he does not run against me and as long as there aren't any other candidates that I would for some reason like more!

PBrunsel, I applaud you for not becoming a carpetbagger. It shows your great moral character and gives people reason to trust you. Even if you never get elected there is no question how everyone on the forum will remember you, as a decent, fair and thoughtful poster who highly contributed to the forum

The second thing I would like to say is DON'T EVER GIVE UP! Keep hope alive! Two loses are nothing and mean nothing for your political future. Jefferson didn't become president on his first try. Reagan tried for years to just be nominated. DON'T EVER GIVE UP! I support any run of yours for office 100% (even though I can never vote for you because I, like you, refuse to carpetbag).

Go get 'em PB!

PB, I'll tell you this the only time you ever fail is when you stop trying. Keep at it man look you got on a lot of write-in votes in the presidential election and your stock has gone way up since your run for the governor's office.

Also didn't you write the mid-west constitution? I believe you did! and that is no small task!

GO PB! GO PB! GO PB!

If you ruin for senate against TXG, you'd have a very, very good chance at winning. Many of the more moderate leftists would vote for you, not because of your politics but because of your personality. Maybe that isn't how we should vote, but a number of us would like to have you as a colleague, or representing us, more then you think.

I agree PBrunsel, don't get discouraged. A lot of great politicians suffered many defeats before finally winning. Take a look at how many obstacles and defeats Abraham Lincoln overcame before finally winning the Presidency, for example.

I agree with Nym, Lincoln is actually a great example of how someone can come from nowhere in politics...he was, IIRC, a two-term Representative, 1848-1852 and then a state attorney before he failed (twice?) to win a senate seat and then suddenly won the presidency.

Don't give up, we all have our ups and downs.

Really? That it was 1 I'm ready to accept, I wasn't sure about that, but I could've sworn it was 1848...I remember reading once that he was elected exactly 100 years before Kennedy...but I could be wrong, I read this a while back.

Actually i'm wrong, it was 1846. He, like most Whigs, opposed the Mexican War.

He stepped down in 1848 to let his law partner, William Herndon, run for his seat.

OK, that makes more sense to me. Smiley When did Kennedy get elected then? 1946 or 1948?
