Open Letter to President Nyman
Dear President Nyman,
I am proud of the hard work that we put forth only three months ago to elect you president. You were a terrific candidate; if you weren't the most exciting, you certainly were competent. You made me proud when you gave your acceptance speech in Detroit.
Despite this, your presidency has been a disaster. You were nearly inactive for the first month, and refused to at least temporarily step down to yield power to the more active Vice President Nelson. Since your "return", your policy decisions have deeply wounded me, as a moderate Democrat.
It started with your cold blooded opposition to the Boss Abortion Act, which I proposed. We had the five votes needed, I even think we had six, but you stepped in the way. The Boss Abortion Act, amond other things, would have ended a procedure commonly known as "Partial Birth Abortion", unless the mother's life or health was at stake. Since I am on this topic, I would like to present to you this descrpition of the procedure of Partial Birth Abortion, from the non-partisan AOLSVC News Service:
"It a banned procedure known to doctors as intact dilation and extraction, but called ''partial-birth abortion'' by foes of abortion. During the banned procedure, the living fetus is partially removed from the womb, and its skull is punctured or crushed."
Now, you had a chance to nearly end the above procedure. The procedure is horrific, but because of you, it is still legal.
The second piece of legislation I have a problem would you supporting is the Civil Unions Act, proposed by Senator Kennedy. The Civil Unions Act breaks the 230 year precedent that has been set by our nation: allowing the states to decide the definition of marraige. Now, not only are you going against the center's beliefs, you are going against history. The federal government under you, President Nyman, in becoming far too large and is leaving the Rights of the States as an afterthought.
Because of your policy decisions, I will not support you in this upcoming presidential election. I like you personally, you are a principled man, but you are the most liberal president since Lyndon Johnson. You campaigned as far more moderate than you are, and you have let me down. I will not vote in this upcoming election.
Best wishes, Mr. President.
Sincerely, David Holland
