*Senator Hughento stands outside the Senate Building with a mysteriously covered banner behind him, surrounded surrounded by the night wth stars in the sky and an open stage with just himself and the podium*

"Friends and fellow moderates,

I am here today to seek the endorsement of the UAC in my Presidential campaign. I will give you five key reasons why I believe you should support a fellow moderate, who is outside of your party, to the top job in Atlasia.

1. I am a friend of your party.

Since day 1, I have been a constant supporter of the UAC, recognising it as a party for good, moderate values. Whilst others opposed your party, I opposed them. When a coalition was set up in the senate against your party, as a fellow moderate I thought it was appalling, wrong, and unsupportable, and was the most vocal critic of the plan in the senate. When more recently a forum-wide coalition was proposed, not only did I fight to close it down, but I set up a counter-group to defend the right of the UAC to exist in our democracy. The UAC has no closer friend then myself from outside its own membership, and nobody who has fought as hard for its' right to existence to convey its centrist message.

2. My views fully conform with your platform.

As a moderate economic conservative, I believe strongly in fully-funded policies, and my tax, business and economic policies are totally in line with the UAC platform as well as what is best for Atlasia. My social policies are a mix of liberalism and centrism; but all conform within your platform too. I do believe in the 'leftist' value presented in a Medicinal Co-Contribution Scheme, as I believe that we should pay for pharmaceuticals when they are as expensive as they are now. But, I also believe that Abortion should be illegal after the first trimester, excluding cases of rape and incest, and I believe that marijuana usage and possession should remain illegal. I am a moderate on social issues compared to members of the UL, Democrats and Republican parties, and I would venture that I am more moderate socially then some of your own current and former members.

3. It is better to have a moderate then an extremist.

If the UAC nominates a candidate separate from myself, the moderate vote will be split. This means that after Preferences, the final two will most probably be the extreme conservative PBrunsel and the more extreme liberal, Harry. Whilst both these men are fine to lead, the fact remains that they are NOT moderates. The best chance we have of getting a moderate president is if we have one candidate between the two moderate parties of the forum. I expect to win the nomination of my party, and would like to have the support of yours so that we can be assured of a moderate President.

4. I am willing (and would like) to work with members of the UAC.

My first choice for Vice-President was a member of your party, .Andrew, has declined, but I am seriously considering a number of UAC members for the position of Vice-President on my ticket. I want UAC members in my cabinet, and I am willing to support UAC legislation if it merits support. But most importantly, I am willing to continue to do what I have done for my whole senate experience, which any of you can look up; I am willing to debate the issues with the UAC, with my own party, and with any other party to get the best solution for Atlasia.

5. I deserve it.

Of all the candidates proposed from within the UAC, and all the candidates running from outside the UAC, I have done the most to deserve a shot at the Presidency. I worked harder then most in the creation of our constitution and the foundation of our nation. I have been one of the few who have helped shape and guide the senate from day one. I have been a centrist's voice from the start, and have proposed and studied proposals on many, many different projects and bills to make our nation better. Of all the names mentioned for the UAC nomination, including Mr. Hobbes, John D Ford and Nation, I have the experience necessary to serve the country, both or parties and moderate interests.

I thank you for your time and I hope that you will support me in my uest to become the next President of Atlasia. Goodnight."

Oh, and one last thing. The covered banner involves my VP choice. I was going to unravel it, as Hugh/.Andrew, but it's a bit out of date now. If anyone wants to see it, I can email it to them. Smiley

You make good points, Hugh, but certain influential party members have categorically stated that they will never endorse someone from outside the party. So my guess is that you are wasting your time.

It Depends on who will be seeking our nomination. But you make a strong case. I'd be ready to endorse and vote for you.

Heh...there's a difference between serious attempts and "I want all endorsements there is"-attempts. Tongue

*bump*

I hope that the members of the UAC seriously consider H/H; it really would be the best for a moderate future for Atlasia.
