Just wondering if people were more moderate if they live in states favoring the other party...

Of course, I am a liberal Democrat from a Bush state.

BTW, this is my 1,000th post. SmileySmileySmiley

No, he means he can't answer because he's not affiliated with any major party.

Gore still won our state, though, and that's what I was pointing out.

Texas is conservative with Christian and Libertarian elements, I am a moderate consevative, so to the Left of my state but in the same general grouping.

Massachusates is way left of me, where my center-right positins are repeatedly attacked as Fascist.

I am a moderate on the issues but a strong partisan.

My state gave Gore his highest %age in 2000 behind only Rhode Island.

Well despite the Grand Old Party controlling the State House and Senate here in Iowa and also a majority of Iowa's reprsenatives to the Congress are Republicans, we went to Vice President Gore by the slimmest of margins.

Perhaps this year...

Yes, but the Republicans do Controll the State Hose and the State Senate. Vilsack is an inept failure as governor and by 2006 Republcians will have the Governor's Mansion again.

Hopefully they can pick up a few more row offices (AG, State Treasurer..)

Oh I was wondering, I know Grassley will cruise to re-election but by how much? Does Art Small even have a chance at breaking 35%?

Small might get 30%. Grassley will clean up on Nov. 2. Grassley was going to run for Governor in 2002, but he chose to stayb in the Senate because of the agricultural boards he was serving on.

PBrunsel,

Why is Grassley so popular in Iowa, being a conservative Republican in a moderate state?

Sometimes I wonder that same thing, only about Harkin.

It all comes down to him getting support from the farmers, the same goes for Harkin.

PBrunsel is right about the farmer issues. But I have to say, when I hear Harkin speak or when I see the way he votes, I can't believe a state like Iowa elects him. And Grassley is much more moderate compared to Harkin.

It's never been easy being a Republican in New Jersey... well at least not until Jimbo McGreevey became Governor... ;-)
