American Deaths caused by
Jefferson Davis- 360,000
Osama Bin Laden- 3,000 add 1,000 depending on his influence
Saddam Hussien- 1,000

Also, John Walker Lindh was a terrible traitor. And the whole country hates him. The Confederates killed hundreds of thousands of more people than he did. But why do we proudly (in some places) put up the confederate flag.

The confederates merely seceeded - it was the union that attacked them for it.

It's true. Then again the Confeds attacked Fort Sumter, starting the war. Lincoln did not start the war, the South did.

That's Fort Sumter, not Sumpter (unless there's a fort by that name in Kentucky Cheesy)  In any case Davis was not responsible for secession.  He was chosen to be President in part because he wasn't a fire-eater.

Davis "looked as if he was given the death sentence", according to his wife Varina, when he was given the note of his election. He wanted to be a Confederate General.

Either that or Sec. of War.

If I have my history right, That position was filled by many men, including former Congressman Judah Benjamin and former VP John Breckenridge. There were more than 6 people in that post by 1865.

Amen to that. If anyone can be compared to Bin Laden and the Taliban it's Lincoln and the Republicans of the 1800s.

The GOP did try to pass a bill in 1866 making it the only major party. Smiley

It was vetoed by Johnson. I forget it's name. It was an attempt to stop all white southerners from voting.

Those deaths were not caused by Davis, they were caused by Lincoln.

Yeah, and it almost got Johnson kicked out of office. If one member of Congress wouldn't have come to his senses, the Republicans would have succeded and this country would been in for a long, hard haul. I certainly doubt we would be what we are today had that happened.

How is someone who was leading/supervising the army that killed 360,000 people who were fighting on the side of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA a patriot?

Because Davis was defending the Constitution as it was intended. The ability for states to secede if they wished when they felt their interests were no longer in agreement with the federal government. I think it's starting to get around that time to consider it again the way things are going.

I disagree with this point. When the Constitution was drafted in the eighteenth century, it required two-thirds of the states for ratification. The Union was to be more than just a sum of the states. Having 11 states leave would destroy the Union altogether and take us back to 1787. Leading an armed uprising against the United States is treason. Period.

No. Certainly not.
He was sort-of-defending the Constitution as he believed it was intended though ... which in a sense is all you can ask for.

I'd say that yes Jefferson Davis was worse than Osama bin Laden is.  Bin Laden might have killed a lot of people and want to kill a whole bunch more but he never kept millions of people in slavery.  The entire southern elite was collectively worse than Al-Queda.  The bulk of southerners were just dumb enough to go to war for the benefit of the southern elite.

In my opinion, Davis is no where near as evil as Bin Laden.
