There was one a long long time ago that showed Bush up by some insane numbers, something like 49-38. There is no way he could be that far ahead in a pure toss up state that was so close last time. And yet none have come sense. It may be only 5 electoral votes, but it deserves just as much attention as NM and more than NH. I'm pretty sure that later polls will show Kerry doing much better. Mason-Dixon needs to hit their soon.

Agreed. That whole block of western states needs more polling, and so do the southern states.

wonder why those states haven't gotten polled?  My guess is there are not as many big media outlets to pay for the polls in those areas.

Really? Except for the Zogby internet survey, I don't know of any polling in Nevada since March.  No recent polls in New Mexico either.

I was looking for a thread to put this post in and I think this'll do as it relates to Nevada.

As threatened, I just returned from a five-day stay in the Aladdin Resort Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.  (Magnificent place, by the way.  Totally inspired by 1001 Arabian Nights:  The place is designed to look like the Lost City of Baghdad as told by Sindbad Al-Bahrii.  Shops looked like mosques, with minarettes, geometric figures, etc.  five restaurants, eighteen bars, etc.  Very expensive, worth every penny.)  The relevant point here is that they are playing John Kerry Commercials on Las Vegas broadcast stations on tv.  Very patriotic and very moving, I might add.  I don't know how much commercials help, but these commercials appeared to be positive about Kerry, not negative against Bush.

Just thought y'all might be interested to know Kerry was playing up the positive TV spots in Vegas.  On the other hand, snippets of conversations among the high rollers in places like Bellagio, Caesar's Palace, Aladdin, and  the Venetian, revealed a very Bush-friendly crowd.  We didn't make it to any of the seedier casinos, but maybe that's where you'll find the more Kerry-friendly gamblers.

Rest of June in Hawaii.  I'll report on what I can learn upon my return.  We are now Mr. and Mrs. Angus.  Peace and love to all.

Congrats, Angus!

I went to Las Vegas.  I stayed at New York, New York.  Very nice place.  There was an arcade that spanned almost an entire floor Grin

In 1988 Bush Sr. got 58.86 in NV.
From this subtract 3.81% which was half of his nationwide margin.
So the 58.86 are made of 55.05 + 3.81, where 55.05 is the "Real GOP Power" and 3.81 is the nationwide impact.
In 2000 just only add the Buchanan number.
If you compare 1998 to 2000 you'll see that the GOP went DOWN from 55.05 to 50.30.
This trend is very significant and I wouldn’t put it down.

There is only one media market in NV I would guess.

To you the GOP will not win any state except for Utah in the future! For once why don't you post some of these great stats about some Democrat states that are trending GOP.

I already mentioned that OR, MN, WI and IA are trending away from the Dems

As long as the Democrats keep swinging to the left they will lose support in the south. We southerners still have some deeply entrenched values. But like I said politics is much like a pendulum. Right now I say we are about right center swinging back towards the middle.

" We southerners still have some deeply entrenched values"

FL is not exactly "South". The North is like GA while the South is more like MD.

Compare FL vs. AL,GA,SC and other deep south states in the previous four elections and you'll ses a totally different trend.

Politically they are different. Social they are not. We are still "brothers" whether northerners like that fact or not.
