Can someone point to the constitutional justification for asking any question on the census other than for the purpose of making congressional districts? Any other information is violating your privacy.

Tin foil hat, anyone?

Constitutional ignorance, anyone?

I don't see any conspiracy theories. Per the Ninth and Tenth Amendments, the federal government has no right to do something unless explicitely given the authority in the constitution. Thus, the only authority the government has with regard to the census is to know how many people reside there. Anything else violates the Ninth and Tenth Amendments.

Can you point the constitutional justification for allowing C-SPAN to cover Congress?  I don't see any justification for this practice.

To my knowledge, CSPAN is a private organization, and thus isn't subject to Constitutional restrictions.

I think any sane person can agree that Michele Bachmann is anything but that. But since we are addressing the issue of constitutionality as it pertains to the U.S. Census, someone should ask Michele Bachmann where in the U.S. Constitution does it say that our elected officials have to love America, or better yet, where in the U.S. Constitution does it say that Congress can hold investigations into perceived anti-Americanism? Hysteria, anyone? I wonder if Michele Bachmann had any relatives back in the day of the Salem Witch Trials.

If Michele Bachmann wins reelection in 2010, I think someone needs to head up to Minnesota's Sixth Congressional District and do a documentary about why these idiots up there continue to elect her.

I wasn't aware that two wrongs made a right. Just because Michele Bachmann advocates something unconstitutional doesn't mean she's wrong when she says something else is unconstitutional. It just makes her a hypocrite.

If she wins she will likely lose her district in the redistricting. It is actually harder to save her then it is to wipe her out and you have Dem Legislature+Likely to be Dem Governor=Minnesota-Michele Bachmann.

Three GOP congressmen urge Bachmann to comply with census

by Ambar Espinoza, Minnesota Public Radio
July 2, 2009

Three Republican congressmen have issued a joint statement asking Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann to end her boycott of the national population count.

Patrick McHenry of North Carolina, Lynn Westmoreland of Georgia, and John Mica of Florida are worried others will follow the steps of Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and ignore the census forms.

Bachmann, who represents Minnesota's 6th Congressional District, told FOX news she won't complete most of the census survey next year.

Even though it's required by law, Bachman said the government questions are too intrusive.

In response, the three congressmen said in statement: "Boycotting the constitutionally mandated Census is illogical, illegal and not in the best interest of our country."

A U.S. Census spokesman said strong privacy protections are in place for the information collected during the census.
