I'm going to vote for Paul Laxalt, who some believe personally intervened to prevent a bloody civil war in the Philippines.  Laxalt was far more conservative than I am, but none of the Nevada Democrats are all that impressive -- Reid is a miserable Senate leader -- so I am gonna flip parties here.

J. Chic Hecht (R)

One of the best Jews to serve in ocngress. Also he is a staunch conservative and a bi-partisan republican. Even more bi-partisan then Lindesy Graham or John McCain.

RIP Chic

This is getting spooky.  I went for Laxalt too.  Conservative without being doctrinaire, he served Nevada well (and with uncommon integrity) as both a governor and a senator.

I also like Chic Hecht.  He believed John Kerry saved his life and regularly thanked Kerry for it.  The two became fast friends, despite their obvious differences.  That's the kind of thing we need to focus on sometimes...we CAN get along...we CAN give a damn about the well-being of the other...and we CAN find things to admire in our ideological foes.

I'm a little disappointed to find so few attracted Democratic choices from Nevada.  I guess Bible and Cannon were decent guys.  It should be interesting to see how the newer D's in the state acquit themselves.

I voted for Laxalt, I also like Chic Hecht, Kenny Guinn, Jon Porter, Dean Hellar, and John Ensign despite his personal failings.
