I can't believe this hasn't been posted yet.

CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez said on Tuesday that he and Cuban ally Fidel Castro risk being more conservative than U.S. President Barack Obama as Washington prepares to take control of General Motors Corp.

During one of Chavez's customary lectures on the "curse" of capitalism and the bonanzas of socialism, the Venezuelan leader made reference to GM's bankruptcy filing, which is expected to give the U.S. government a 60 percent stake in the 100-year-old former symbol of American might.

Has Obama placed priced controls on food?  cite

Does the US Fed own US power plants or the largest telecom or the largest steel company or the largest concrete company like Chavez's govt does? cite

Taking over one bankrupt company isn't the smartest thing Obama has done, but it  hardly moves him to the left of Chavez and Castro.

Chavez has never been confused with an honest genius.

Correct Dead but he does own a majority share in GM. Do you really think GM will be making any more independent decisions?

I have no idea, and I agree with you, the govt shouldn't have anything to do with GM...but if they must, they need to sell former GM resources and assets ASAP until the govt is paid back in full.  No company should be "too big to fail".  Maybe in a land where the govt controls the economy, but not in a free market.

(yeah yeah, we don't and have never had a truly "free market")

Um...GM has failed catastrophically. They have no owner's equity left. Their liabilities are off the chart. They are lucky they aren't being dissected piece by piece and sent off to their creditors. The only reason they still exist is because of the government. GM does not deserve any more independent decisions.

Correct, they should have been shut down and sold off piece by piece.

I agree in principle. I am not sure about in practicality, though.
