Too lazy to find a link in English, but AF 447 from Rio to Paris disappeared at 02:14UTC over the Atlantic. 228 pax and crew are presumed dead, and Sarkozy already said they're all dead (way to cheer people up!). It is said to be lightning, but people have said that lightning shouldn't bring a new plane down...

Including those presumed dead, Prince Pedro Luís of Orléans-Braganza, the 4th in line to the Imperial Throne of Brazil.

Brazilian Air Force have not found anything, not even distress signals/buoys the plane was equipped with...

What a strange story.  Would not be at all out of place about 50 years ago (except maybe the distance traveled) but it's hard to believe that a plane just... completely disappeared... in 2009.

Seem to have found the plane. But I'm still skeptic of lightning strikes... most experts seem to say that lightning can't bring down a plane. Borloo hasn't ruled out a "criminal act", though a hijacking is obviously ruled out (lol).

I'm not seeing anything about finding the plane, but I completely agree about lightning strikes... airplanes, like cars, are well-insulated against lightning strikes.  Some sort of freak climatological thing seems more likely (e.g. lightning+hail+the extreme winds found in severe storms all happening at about the same time... and add in equipment failure or pilot error or something just for fun), but certainly not lightning alone.

Lightning doesn't strike planes, it goes through them on it's way to wherever it was going and can certainly bring down a plane.

Best. Post. Ever.

Will Ségolène Royal offer her apologies in the name of France and say that these actions do not involve France as a whole?

She's able to.

Damn. That. is. a.ma.zing. I never saw such a media cover for something like this, actually. Seems that since the news was known, all national TVs were on it, breaking news all day long, and every times with almost nothing new to say, and this until in the late evening, and I don't speak here of news channels... Damn. I never saw it here.

The French media covered it well, but damn Pujadas is dumb. "Is it possible the plane landed like that American plane did in the Hudson?". Come on, don't be retarded. Or pushing Borloo to give the exact cause.

Mystery, mystery: all you need to make "Audimat", as we say in France.
And you can imagine every explanation you want: a North-Korean missile hit from Guinea-Bissau, leftists back from Brazil sabotaging, Pakistani Talibans, a pilot and a co-pilot having swine flu and dying on board, a plane not drilled enough because of horrible French capitalists putting too much strain on poor mechanics, etc...
And you could hope for some hours that there were survivors.
French medias aren't far away from the worst TV channels in the US, Italy, the UK, etc.

"X-Files", "24 hours" and some US police series, live during the evening news and all the day on 24-7 news channels (trash BFM-TV, old LCI and not-good-any-longer i-Télé): how good for advertising incomes !!

Oh, don't worry about French medias. The goddamn CBC here in Canada was like "228 people died, BUT ONE CANADIAN DIED". They called the family, they published his picture, his whole CV and family history. The Ottawa Citizen wrote 90% of its article on that guy, 9.9% on the crash, and 0.1% mentioning that 200 other people also died. But then, the Citizen.

As always in Canada, if a million people die and one Canadian dies - FOCUS ON THE CANADIAN. If one million die but no Canadians - who cares.

This brings me to my next point. How long until this is linked to 9/11? the evil French lazy bastards? capitalism? swine flu? anti-Orleans-Braganza conspiracy by the Brazilian government? anti-Michelin conspiracy? Hugo Chavez? Or the airplane didn't crash, it peacefully landed like the Americans did on the Hudson and they're fine, or alien missile strike?

You Forgot Aliens. Planes disappearing like that are prime targets for Alien/alternate dimension conspiracy theories. I'm surprised if there aren't some already... (or are Aliens now too 90s and passe and now its the OMG FEDERAL GUVMENT!!!111 ALEX JONES!!11 instead?)

Also Hashemite, there were three Irish people on about. Everything you said about the Canadian reports could also sadly be applied to the Irish media and those three people.

When I come to think about it, through all TVs reports we had here, media didn't push too much on the big number of French in it. They were more on "what the hell has happen??", all time long. Sure they spoke about it, but I tend to have the feeling they did it less than what they use to do when there is just a few French involved in a catastrophe. Damn, they were too much French for them to have as much media cover as before...

Mystery, mystery: all you need to make "Audimat", as we say in France.

Frankly, I wonder if the "audimat" (the name for the rate of the audience in France) works by making an overdose of media coverage and saying almost nothing new each time. If ever it does, there is something wrong in here...

French medias aren't far away from the worst TV channels in the US, Italy, the UK, etc.

Yes, that's what I told me. That wasn't like it before. They clearly made a new step toward this direction here. Just with the hope it won't last, we never know...

"X-Files", "24 hours" and some US police series, live during the evening news and all the day on 24-7 news channels (trash BFM-TV, old LCI and not-good-any-longer i-Télé): how good for advertising incomes !!

I don't have LCI, but on the 2 other ones (which can have some interesting things time to time, even if both remain pretty cheap concerning their quality, but it's not the place to speak about it), that was almost scary to see how people could repeat all day long the only exact same things...

David Pujadas' latest stupidity: "Could we find survivors in a lifeboat?"

Good job, dumbass. A plane at 30,000 feet crashes/blows up in flames and they randomly survive and conveniently find a lifeboat. And float around for nearly 48 hours in the deepest and stormiest part of the Mid-Atlantic.

Readers on the Communist Party's newspaper have linked this to a large far-right anti-communist conspiracy. They also wrote how the pilot's trade unions had warned of this and warned against the eternal race to profit in this age of capitalism. That wasn't long, was it?

They dared. Luckily we've them to enlighten us on that story. Well, trolls are everywhere...
