I will be starting a new timeline next week. I know I have had difficulty in finishing my timelines, but this one I am really enjoying and I am not bored by it. It will be written in the "PBrunsel" style, meaning that the format would be like this:

January 20, 2009: Barack Obama takes the oath of office, becoming the first African-American President of the United States. He tells Americans that we will emerge stronger from theses crises, and the world that "we are ready to lead again."

The topic, The Al Gore Presidency, will be my assumption of the twists and turns of his Presidency. It will be a short timeline, with only ten installments. Red Avatars, do not worry as I will be fair to Gore, and Blue Avatars, do not worry as we will not end up enslaved or dead.

I have spent the last three weeks researching and thinking about how and what Gore would have done, who would have suceeded him, etc.

That is all. Please no insults.

Sounds fun. Just to clarify, this is a Gore wins in 2000 Timeline, correct?

Because it could be a Gore in '88, '92, '04, or '08 aswell. Geez, that poor schmuck has been around for a while.

Yes, it is 2000. A Gore in 2004 or 2008 would be too soon....

And Wouldn't have as dramatic consequences.

So we can breeze through the Democratic primaries for lack of meaningful opposition -- right? Early on, I also assume that John McCain's run for the Presidency runs into the "black baby" canard that Karl Rove generated, and that Dubya gets away with it until after the nomination. Right?

What changes? Does Gore campaign differently? Does he make efforts to expose the "black baby" smear as evidence of discreditable character of Dubya or his campaign staff? Does he decide to let Bill Clinton campaign on his behalf? Does he choose a different VP candidate? I can imagine many possible directions. Does he play a "beat-the-cheat" strategy once he finds that the Bush campaign has a perceptible chance of cheating, most notably in Florida? A clique that will stoop to a lie to smear a primary opponent is likely to resort to dirty tricks to win in the general election. Let us remember the reality that any one of several states that voted for Dubya by fewer than 7% (not only FL, but also NH, OH, TN, NV, AR, and AZ) could have won the Presidency for Gore.  Different strategies, including the choice of VP, could have made all the difference.

To change the least from reality I would say that the Supreme Court allows the recount to continue (either Kennedy or O'Connor flip). Then Gore narrowly wins.

Also, NiK, I volunteer to do congressional elections as I have already done my own research and feel quite good about how certain races would change with Bush not being President.
