While the overall economy is not very bright, Obama must be given credit for stimulating sales in one industry.  Here is a report on one of the leading companies:

Smith & Wesson profit doubles, beats Street view

(Reuters) - U.S. firearms maker Smith & Wesson Holding Corp's (SWHC.O) quarterly profit more than doubled and topped estimates, as demand for its handguns and tactical rifles remained strong.

For the fourth quarter ended April 30, the Springfield, Massachusetts-based company posted a net profit of $7.4 million, or 14 cents a share, compared with $3.3 million, or 8 cents a share, last year.

Smith & Wesson, which rivals with Ruger and Taurus for revolvers and Glock, Ruger and Springfield Armory for pistols, said its firearms backlog increased to $268 million by the end of April.

Net product sales rose 20 percent to $99.5 million.

Analysts on average were expecting the company earn 12 cents a share, excluding items, according to Reuters Estimates.

Shares of the 157-year old company were slightly up at 5.84 in trading after the bell. The stock closed at $5.75 Monday on Nasdaq.

Well, Democratic presidents tend to stimulate fear and loathing among gun owners and paranoid reactionaries, so this shouldn't be too surprising.

Yep, made this stock pick for my friends in Summer 2008. Still not a bad time to buy it especially if some new gun control legislation picks up within the next 4 years.

Last year was a good time for lower brand staple products too. Due to increased demand and fall in commodity prices.

Don't expect any legislation coming out of Congress, but do expect Obama administration to engage in a wide variety of harrasment measures.

I think the fact that he's black riles these gun nuts as much or more than just the Democrat thing.

But keep in mind, the depression will increase gun demand regardless of the political issue.  Crime, violence, and all forms of human misery and degredation should increase greatly over the next few years.

(facepalm)
Just when I thought the hackery couldn't get more insane. LOL at the idea that gun owners are super racist. Last time I checked the history books said racists were the ones who came up with the idea of gun control. But hey, the experts agree that gun control works....and by experts I mean Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, and to a lesser degree Hitler.

I meant in general. Your bias is clearly showing here. Funny how super liberals are the ones saying we need to quit judging yet they're the first ones to assume that gun owners are murderers. Most of the gun owners I know have many black friends. In fact I bet the majority of the gun owners who probably are racist belong to extreme racial supremists groups in like friggin Idaho. Hell, a ton of gun owners happen to be Democrats too. In fact I'll be laughing my ass off when half the US senators in your party are pro gun in the next 10-20 years.

Do you really want to keep supporting an idea with racist roots and has the endorsement of crazy ass genocidal dictators?

I actually agree with this point if the economy doesn't soon turn.

That actually makes sense.
