I'm considering starting the pursuit of my master's degree, namely MBA, in January 2010 at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.

If I wait until January, I can go to school for free (up to $5,000 a year) because my company will pay for it.

UCO is not near as expensive as other, bigger, grad schools, so two semesters a year shouldn't be more than $5,000 a year with just tuition, fees, and books.

I still haven't taken my GMAT, yet, and I suspect I'd better do that relatively soon, so I can start applying.

Good for you. All the better if your company will pay for it. I'd advise buying a GMAT study book, so you can familiarize yourself with the format.

Actually what you should start worrying about is getting ready for the GMAT so you can score as high as possible on it. Since you're going to be starting in January 2010 there's really no big rush for that just yet.

Good luck though, I'll be graduating myself in December 2009, I'm a General Business Major. And I myself am probably going to go to Grad School right away myself here, same school, for Human Resource Management so I'll be going through the whole process that you will be, fun! Smiley Tongue

If you company will pay for it (and hopefully it isn't going under any time soon - a big question since I don't remember what it is), then do it.

But I don't see much use for many MBAs in the future actually.  Unless you're using it in combination with something else.

Are there a lot of women in your major?  It seems HR people are usually young and hot or the semi-bitchy real estate saleswoman type.

I'm actually a General Business Major, which is split pretty evenly. But since you can't get a GB MBA I'm going to go for HR so I can't say.

I'm halfway thinking about footing a prep course for an MBA even though I have to wait until January 2010 for my company to start paying for it.  I just want to get myself back in the mode of studying and classes before I go full-throttle in a Graduate Program.

BTW, my company is very stable is not in any danger of going under (knock on wood Tongue) as it is in the Utility/Energy Industry and has not had a single layoff in her 107-year history.  They've let people go, but that was due to the fault of the employee.

Good luck, I bet this is exciting!  I'm planning on grad school, so I'd love to hear about how the process goes.  Keep us updated!

Would you keep working while you're at school, or would you go full time?

Oh, I would definitely keep working.  I've got a career now.  I'll be trying to go in the evenings, which might take me a few years to complete.  I hope to have the MBA completed sometime in 2013 or 2014.
