If Rossi were to ever run for President 2016 would probably be his year. A conservative Governor from a left leaning state that was able to win reelection would be a serious resume. Plus he has some business experience which Republicans claim to like.

He has to defeat Gregorie first, and I'm not so sure that will happen. You have had a Dem governor for almost 30 years!

24 years and hopefully we will make it 28.

I've heard Rick Perry has higher ambitions.

If Perry had higher ambitions why didn't he run this year? He'd probably have won the nomination as an orthodox Southern Republican governor. (Of course, he'd be crushed in November.)

Was it just because it was a bad year?

Besides, isn't Perry pretty unpopular?

It's going to be a long time before Northerners vote for a Texas corporatist or a Southern conservative of any kind. Southern conservatism has too much of an anti-rational (fundamentalist Protestant)  streak and an excessive reliance upon agrarian elites for Northern tastes.  Northerners have few problems with fiscal conservatism or with tough-on-crime practice, but they generally despise cronyism and find the anti-intellectualism of the Religious Right alien.

The last conservative to have success as President was Ronald Reagan -- not so much because he was a watered-down conservative (he wasn't) but instead because he could never be tied to any one particular region. Bush I rode the success of Reagan in winning election but ran out of ideas (which explains why VPs of two-term Presidents rarely win election immediately after two terms as VP -- most recent were GHWB and Martin Van Buren, both one-term Presidents).

Dubya? One needs a very permissive definition of success. He won the Presidency by a margin that now seems suspect, and he got re-elected with as feeble a mandate as any incumbent President since at least the start of the 20th century. All that kept him from crashing and burning in 2004 was either a little help from his friends... or what may have been the weakest challenger to an incumbent President since Walter Mondale.

President Butch Otter

Yeah, the political cartoons write themselves.  I really regret not having my image safe search on when I googled "gay otter" but here you go:

As we used to say in Erie

Otter Slaughter!!!!

Huntsman seems more and more interesting the closer I look at him.

Mormonism really wasn't what hurt Romney.  Lack of credibility is what hurt Romney.  If he hadn't "found religion" on a variety of issues two years before the primary, he would have won.

Yeah, but he's not that really slobbish fat, he's kind of just chubby.  Frankly the man doesn't look too bad in photos, so hopefully no one would meet him, he is much more immense in person
