Technically, it'll be more like 41 years by the time he's actually President.

In 1961, he said "in the next 30 or 40 years". So no, he didn't.

It was still quite the bold thing to say, and he was pretty close. It's cool, but not as prophetic as you make it seem.

Technically we did not get a black President in the next 40 years from any point in RFK's life, but that's being rather picky.

Also amusing because Obama was *completely* removed from African-American culture until he went to college, and even then he only experienced it through clubs until he graduated with a Law Degree pretty damn late in life.

His high school was a prestigious half-Asian, half-white private school.  My girlfriends aunt (from Hawaii) once gave a "Barry Obama" a soy sandwich of some sort that Barry found disgusting.   The GF's Mom remembers hearing from her sister about how Barry rejected her sandwich.

Three degrees of separation baby (less if you count my professor last year being Obama's second/third closest economic adviser).

While we're sharing Obama stories, one of my teachers went to Occidental and was in a sorority. One of the other girls in her sorority (who was a few years older than her) had several classes with Obama when he went to Occidental. She said that while everyone else in the class would be frantically taking notes during lectures and speakers, Obama would just sit there with his hands folded in his lap, listening attentively. He would then proceed to get an A on every paper and test they had in the class.

Yeah my professor's sister was in the same Harvard classes as him and apparently everyone pseudo-hated him because he would occasionally ask questions that were smart enough that everyone else (this is Harvard, mind you) felt instantly stupid and felt that they didn't belong haha.  He projected a vibe back then that you weren't in the same intellectual/academic league as him.

No he didn't. Obama just proves his prediction tragically wrong.

Al doesn't feel that Barack Obama is a real African-American, and it's tragic that even forty years later, the only way we can get a black into office is if he's culturally white. I assume. Tongue
