I assumed pretentious indie movie = Garden State
Kind of. I'd say more like anything by Charlie Kaufman. But low-budget indie flicks that are only shown in some arthouse theatres that Joe the Plumber has never heard of (this is the most important part to people like BRTD) are included, so Garden State isn't a terrible example, being rather low-budget, quirky, featuring "obscure" music, and having that "coming of age" theme. Maybe I Heart Huckabees, Sideways, Juno, even Napoleon Dynamite BEFORE it became popular on DVD work.. I can remember seeing Napoleon Dynamite in theatre and being the only one there when it first came out. But I digress. I don't think it becomes immature to like these types of movies ever unless you're only watching to look young or seem hip, then it's just sort of sad. Any type of art needs to be enjoyed only on the merits of its content and not on the scene, who's in it, who wrote/directed/produced it. Blah blah blah.
