A massive freedom fighter on many issues. Don't group him with Long or any of the other disruptive demagogues. This man had a supreme moral and intellectual conception of America; see especially his 1896 and 1900 nomination acceptance speeches.

Though I disagree with him about scientific Darwinism, I respect that one of his primary concerns was that such science would lead to social Darwinism.
Ironically, social Darwinism has been embraced by many of the same folks who are most livid about scientific Darwinism.
It's very ironic, and I don't blame him for predicting the reverse at all.
