As documented in today's Boston Globe, it is ridiculously easy to fraudulently vote.  Illegal aliens do it, 911 Hijacker did it, the dead do it, pets can do it, people can vote multiple times in multiple places.  It is its easy to register fictitious or non-existent people, easy to vote multiple times.  The US lags behind most third world countries on the integrity of our voting system

A few pretty simple steps that would reduce most of the fraud would require an ID when registering, a photo ID when voting, and a computer check of registration lists from other states for every absentee ballot.

Billions have been spent to reduce the creative ways people screw up a ballot (good-bye chads), but very little  has been done to prevent illegal votes.

I'd rather have a system that reduces illegal votes, as well as a system that  reduces the percentage of improperly completed ballots by voters who do not follow directions.

My fear is people get away with voting absentee and then again at the polls.

Here in SC, you have to show ID, but it could be the Voter registration card which has no photo and wouldn't be all taht difficult to forge..However, SC does a fairly good job of voter registration with a central registry so a single person can't be registered more than once anywhere in the state.  Can't say how well they do at catching out-of-state registration or old registrations that someone might take advantage of.

It's pathetic really, but no they don't ask for it.  You just sign next to your name and go into the booth.

We have to fill out a form with our address, show ID and repeat our address to them while they compare it to what's on the computer. We don't have a "voters roll" anymore.

I didn't have to show picture ID when I voted in the primary on 9-6. All I had to do was show poll workers my voter registration card. As long as your name shows up on the rolls, you can vote. If I was to obtain multiple registration cards, I could have voted multiple times.

Couldn't people just make fake ID's?

Sure but even so, wouldn't that make it more difficult to commit voter fraud?

More difficult, yes.  More time consuming, yes.  But if you are going to commit voter fraud, you are likely to commit the time to making a fake ID to get in.

I can edit my ID within 30 mins if you give me scissors and a black pen.

So what's your point? That NO effort to check a photo ID should be made? If a person intent on fraud wants to go through the trouble of making several fake IDs just to vote multiple times so be it. Making it EASY for them by NOT requiring a photo ID when voting is still just stupid.

Would anyone actually waste their time making fake IDs to vote?

Are you kidding me? It's INCREDIBLY hard to vote if you don't have ID. If it were easy, I'd be voting for Badnarik in November!

I don't--I just tell the good people at the polls my address and that is good enough for them.

You are only 16! Did you try to vote or something?

No but there was a kid my age in my town that tried to vote for Bush in the Republican PRIMARY and he was slapped with tons of community service and a fine. And this was a PRIMARY! One that barely even needed to be held!

Not in my town is it easy.
