This year, Hawaii becomes the 11th state to implement a bottle bill. Is this a good idea and would you support a bottle bill in your state?

More information can be found at: http://www.bottlebill.org/index.htm

we have one here in Michigan, and I think it's a good idea.  Each bottle is worth 10 cents and you pay 10 cents more when you buy the drink and get it back if you return the bottle.

which obviously encourages recycling. I am surprised that more states are not pushing for this.

In the other states do you pay the deposit when you buy it or do you just return cans to get money.  Also there are very few cans and bottles litter.  I have like $10 worth of cans save up.

It's great -- I can usually spend an hour or so and get enough bottles/cans at 5 cents a pop for a six pack later on in the evening.

I mean, I'm underage. Alcohol is BAD.

I usually save up my empty beer bottles till i have a few bucks before i bother turning them in.  Makes me feel like I got more money back that way I guess.  Anyway, I've heard that here in New York they are trying to get a new bottle bill passed that covers non-carbonated beverages.

Yes, the deposit is included in the price of purchase.  You have to return them to break even.

To my knowledge, that's done everywhere in Canada.  Here it's 5 cents for an aluminum can, 10 cents for a bottle less than one litre, and 20 cents for a bottle over one litre.  I didn't know there was anywhere where it was not done.  It works very well.

Yes many other nations have it, yet only 11 states. It was just voted on in West Virginia and shot down. Too bad. One reason it has not spread to other states is that the people are not informed. Spread the word!!!

I'd never heard it called "bottle bill" before.  I heartily support this.  Michigan was one of the first states to start the program, and I love it.  It has environmental benefits as well as an easy way for lcoal groups to raise money through bottle drives.
