At the moment, McCain is obviously suffering the "John Howard-Syndrome" ...

Robocalling is cheap.  It may be a little embarassing for McCain (hence why the RNC made the buy—the McCain campaign probably can't swallow enough pride to), but it's the right move to hold the state.

Yep, it's a 50/50 race as far as I'm concerned. AZ is McCain country.

Is this one of those battleground states where McCain is "within striking distance"?

No, a 50/50 race was in 2000, which was after four years of unprecedented prosperity. There's no way this is sitting at a 50/50 race given the state of the economy and the fact that AZ is clearly within danger of being lost on Election Day.

McCain has a slim chance at pulling it out.  He just needs to pull Obama to under 50%, and hope that the undecided break overwhelmingly in his favor (not outside the realm of possibilies).

AZ might be uncomfortably close for McCain, but he isn't losing the state.

Then please tell me why the undecideds are so high still? Obama can't seal the deal.

Or the undecideds do not want to tell a pollster in front of their racist family that they've had enough and do not care that Obama is black.
