AK Senator Ted Stevens is toast. He was just found guilty. But he is  on the ballot. The most recent polls showed him tied or slightly behind
http://www.pollster.com/polls/ak/08-ak-sen-ge-svb.php

Should Palin indicate that if she loses VP and Stevens wins his seat, she would appoint herself (since Stevens would have to resign).  She could essentially put herself on the ballot (notionally) as US Senator. If she wants to remain on the national stage and run in 2012, US Senate would be the place for her to pad out her resume. She remains popular in AK.

That'd be insane.

What if they both won?  She'd be essentially promoting a corrupt candidate's political future.

If he wins the election but has to face jail time, he would be forced to vacate the postion.  In that case, if she wishes to appoint herself, she could and I wouldn't mind.  She has potential.  However, I would rather have her stay as Governor and get more experience under her belt before striving for higher office.

A Governorship would probably be better.

voters generally take a dim view of governors promoting themselves to the senate.

Appointing Parnell would be a more likely scenario, but by a margin of 0.0000001 to 0.0000000001.
