Interesting. It really seems that they are going to go all out and try to win PA.

This is dumb and campaign propaganda in a way.  It’s an attempt to spin the conversation away from McCain must win all of OH, FL, VA, *AND* CO into ”McCain only needs one of MN, PA,  *OR* WI" which sounds a lot nicer.

I think curve wise, McCain is in decent shape in the battleground states, his problem is that he trails nationally by around 7 points.  He can't lose the PV by more than 2% and have any realistic chance of winning the EV.

If the race nationally becomes closer, all this talk becomes more interesting.  Until then (if that ever happens), it sounds like Gore post-debate before the last two-week surge.

Here's what McCani's campaign said:
We'll do a conf call at 5:45pm ET on the state of the race, but it's really sort of laughable. We played in MI to spread the field on Obama. As you know, Obama has already abandoned a number of states from his 50 state strategy. If we win FL, MO, NC, VA, IN and OH — all states Republicans have won for decades — that puts us at 260 electoral votes. We need to find 10 electoral votes from CO, NV, NM, NH, MN, WI, and PA. Frankly, we have an easier map than Obama. He’s on the defense.

His fate hangs much much more on CO, than WI, MN and PA. Unless they are assuming they are going to lose CO

Yup.  The Maine CD thing was interesting. I guess they are worried about losing CO, and going to an EV tie by winning New Hampshire. The nabbing of an electoral vote in Maine would do the trick.

It is hard to get very interested in EV counts however, when McCain is down 6% in the polls, and the economic news is all bad and getting worse, and Palin is paling into a "fail." I wonder if I will be able to stand listening to the debate all the way through tonight.
