I find that Paul's policies, both domestic and foreign, are quite radical.  I understand that he has energized a large group of people to support his cause, but he has no place in American politics.
I'm sorry you must be confusing him with 80% of elected Republicans/95% of elected Democrats, and Joe Lieberman

Sorry, but I just believe that a foreign policy of non-intervention and abolishing the income tax aren't in the best interests of the country.

"If we had some foreign power, people who don't look like we do, people with a different religious value system, occupying our country, you bet we'd resist it...  Is anyone surprised at the 'insurgency' in Iraq?"

"...The war on drugs has been a complete and total failure...  In the name of compassionate conservatism, people have been arrested for nothing other than smoking marijuana in their own homes..."

"In 70s, after a few hijackings, we became dependent on the government to protect us.  If it had occurred to them that there might be some people on board who understood and valued their second-amendment rights and were carrying, they may not be so quick to hijack in the first place..."

"The Brazilians are now selling us corn ethanol cheaper than we can make on our own, so what do we do?  We put a tariff on it so it becomes more expensive..."

"And, speaking of ethanol, there's a cheaper source than corn, anyway.  It's hemp."

Oh, the crowd loved that one.  It is powerful stuff.  And consistent.  The central underlying theme seems to be liberty.  In fact early on he used that old line about how those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.  Liberty.  Economic, personal, and political.

Now he's talking about how the environment is trashed by bad government regulations.  This is new.  Hmm.  "...none of us has the right to abuse our neighbor's property or another person...  that is the one limitation that we have...  If we observe that one restriction, our environment wouldn't suffer..."  Actually, it's a tad over-idealistic, but it is profound.

Yeah, much of the pie-in-the-skyIdealism of the Right is impractical, but it's food for thought.

I still like Ron Paul.  I just hope he doesn't launch a third-party bid.  I don't know how it'd affect the election.  Don't claim to.  I only know how it'd affect my vote.  I do think he's a thoughtful legislator and I am glad he's one of our representatives in congress.

They walked him off the stage to Tom Petty.  But he's like a superstar and
can't get out without the obligatory "touch my baby and bless him"
afficionados.  Man, you know some good reefer is being passed around tonight.

"Well I wont back down, no I wont back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I wont back down

Gonna stand my ground, wont be turned around
And Ill keep this world from draggin me down
Gonna stand my ground and I wont back down

Hey baby, there aint no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I wont back down.

Well I know whats right, I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin me around
But Ill stand my ground and I wont back down

Hey baby there aint no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I wont back down
No, I wont back down"

     --Tom Petty

"Now, we're gonna go across town to the Republican National Convention where the First Lady is introducing her husband..."

Cut to Laura.
