Well, this was quite a rollar-coaster of an election. This is only the second time I've ever had to do this so this wont be very good. A thank you to all those who voted for me, I thank you for your support. To all those who didn't, you're first against the wall when the revolution comes. Tongue

Seriously though I think this election showed everyone what a great system STV-PR is. The problems that have been continually brought up by people like Torie and the "Regional Protection Party" have been addressed by this election. Not only did the NLC underperform this election, with only one relatively independent and left-wing member elected, but both the left and the right had great showings. Also not a single Northeasterner was elected. I, for one, think it's time for the Northeast to assert itself and secede. Tongue

I'm also happy that two great ex-Senators, Jas and Al, are coming back into the Senate. Although I would have loved to work with my former Vice President in the Senate I'm happy to see him back in that position after a long hiatus.

As for my plans now, my options are really open. I could just retire from it all become inactive and join the ever growing list of ex-Atlasians. I could try to strong arm Verily out of his regional Senate seat so I can have a nice safe seat all to myself. I can finally put into motion that coup I've been planning for years, damn it wasn't supposed to say that. Hey, maybe I can run for President again, that's always an option, I'd get like maybe 4 votes but you never know. If anyone has a position available that doesn't have the words Lieutenant and/or Governor in it I'd appreciate it.

Seriously though, I'm going to serve out the remainder of my term as Senator and PPT and then you may see an old periodical from "glory days" of Atlasia return, again, if I have enough time for it.

Well thank again to everyone who preferenced me rather highly. I thank you for your support or kinda support. Also good luck to the new Senate, with the Hitler Youth in it you'll need all the luck you can get. Wink

Sorry you did not make the cut Colin. In my universe, you would have. And as to the appearance of my name in your text, my motto is that bad publicity is better than no publicity. Grin  Kudos on a gracious speech.

Yep, this is unfortunate. I went back and forth on who to put first and second- it seemed like you were in good shape and Jas needed a boost.

Wonder how all this would have gone had we voted secret ballot.

You've been one of the most active leaders of our nation. Rest!

Sad Even though we didn't see eye to eye, you were a great Senator & a great PPT.

I concur that this election debunked the argument that Northeastern NLCers will always dominate at-large elections. It's just a shame that you & Andrew had to lose in the process of proving that.

Well, I suppose this is a reasonably good time to announce that I am planning to retire from the Senate at the next election. So Colin may well get a "safe seat".

Well I was being facetious but I may try for it. However, if anything, not being in the Senate will help be focus more on school, which is probably a good thing.

Also, the RPP wants that seat. We might have a shot if Colin doesn't run. Tongue

A real shame that you leave the Senate as Down enters it. Such is life, I guess.

Verily, retire?  The NLC soundly beat in the elections?

This isn't very heartening, but I firmly believe that the NLC will be stronger than ever, and a better party due to our new competitors.

You people got DWTL elected to the Senate, do you really want more?

We need more party unity. We are becoming too amorphous, to much of a blob of a party. We need a dicipline akin to the JCP, support our members and our party list, always. You support the party and the party supports you.

Part of the reason the NLC hasn't been very effective of late has been because I haven't been a very effective chairman. Hopefully someone more active can take over.

Should Verily ever step down, please don't, I think Colin would make an excellent chairman.

Well, Colin, you've been a good Senator and PPT. It'll be too bad to see you go. In fact, I can't remember the last time an incumbent PPT was voted out. Such is the fickleness of PR-STV.

Verily, the first two sentences apply to you, too.

Wonder how all this would have gone had we voted secret ballot.
Al would have been ranked first instead of third on my ballot. That alone (all else equal, which it isn't, of course) would be enough to throw two Senators out.

There was a time when a secret ballot was seriously discussed in Atlasia. I remember it pretty well, so this was something of a happy flashback. Smiley

Sorry for stealing your thread Colin. Yeah. Please do journalism now. Take up the baton where Jas dropped it a month ago. Smiley

Ah, I was just coming back to the thread to edit in something like "not that I don't want you to continue or anything". But yeah, I want something more in the mold of what Jas used to do. More indepth, yet also more to the point. Not sure how to describe it.

Off topic: If I'd voted earlier and without as many tactical considerations (which included: "Given what I'm doing at the top of the ballot, what's below 6th is irrelevant no matter how, what's below third or possibly fourth is almost certainly just as irrelevant") you'd have gotten my 7th pref.
